As your professional body, we’re here to help you understand upcoming changes and trends in the world of work. With the latest employment law updates, valuable new insight on flexible and hybrid working, and guidance on supporting employees with fertility-related issues, this month's run-down has everything you need. Here’s a recap of the insights, guidance and other resources we’ve shared this month to help keep your finger on the pulse.

Focus on...leadership and engagement

Throughout July and August, our ‘Focus on’ series will explore the key themes of leadership and engagement.

Good senior leadership is vital in providing organisations with strategic direction and oversight. But what are the skills, capabilities and knowledge that senior leaders should be equipped with? And how can people professionals tasked with selecting, developing or advising on senior leadership positions carry this out effectively?

We published a new report this month to explore what good leadership looks like and how people professionals can support the selection and development of senior leaders as part of workforce planning.

You can also listen to a recent podcast on the impact of leaders on organisational culture.

How organisations in Asia are designing benefits programmes to attract and retain top talent

This month, we published our second Asia employee benefits report in partnership with AIA. It’s a transformative time in the region as the economic landscape and expectations and needs of employees continue to evolve rapidly.

The report presents findings from our survey on employee benefits and explores current trends, priorities and challenges in designing benefits programmes. It also explores the current state of practices and offers practical recommendations for organisations and people professionals.

Case study: Understanding the impact of shared services on operational efficiency

Organisational re-design or changes to align teams and structures with business strategy can be extremely powerful. We shared a case study this month highlighting the work of ADNOC, a diversified energy group owned by the Abu Dhabi Government, to design and embed a shared services model.

The case study explores the transformative impact of the programme and shares valuable lessons for organisations considering a similar approach.

The latest UK employment law roundup

We’re keeping a constant watchful eye on the evolving employment law landscape, and making sure our knowledge hub is updated to provide you with the most current information. Here’s the latest this month:

How are flexible and hybrid working practices impacting performance, engagement and wellbeing?

Over a year since the implementation of the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023, we’ve explored the current state of flexible and hybrid working practices in the UK. In a new report, we examine how current trends in flexible and hybrid working are shaping and impacting performance, employee engagement and wellbeing, among other important organisational outcomes.

Developing effective support for employees experiencing fertility challenges

Relatively few organisations have policies or guidance in place to support employees having fertility treatment. We’re working to encourage organisations to view fertility as an important workplace wellbeing issue. This includes practical guidance about the support employers can put in place.

Building on our research findings, we’ve published an updated guide to help people professionals develop effective support for employees experiencing fertility challenges, investigations or treatment.
