As your professional body, we’re here to help you understand upcoming changes and trends in the world of work. With proposed reforms looking likely to transform employment law over the coming months and years, it’s never been more important for people professionals to stay up to date. Here’s a recap of the guidance, insight and resources we’ve shared this month to help keep you at the top of your game.

Keeping you up to date with evolving UK employment law reforms

As your professional body, we’re committed to keeping you up to date on the evolving employment law landscape and ensuring the people profession’s influential voice is heard. Here’s a snapshot of what’s new this month

Opportunity for people profession to shape statutory equality guidance

Following the UK Supreme Court’s ruling that ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex only, we’ve called for members to help our response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)'s consultation. The EHRC is now working to update statutory guidance, in consultation with affected stakeholders, and your input will directly inform our submission.

We know that the changes will lead to practical challenges and you’re likely to have many questions. By making the EHRC aware of these challenges, we can help ensure the guidance is practical for both employers and employees.

New CIPD report: Resetting EDI and reaffirming inclusion

In a new report published this month, we’ve explored how organisations are approaching a changing equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) landscape constructively and confidently.

As EDI has become increasingly complex, new approaches may be needed. Our report includes insights from 50 senior HR leaders and EDI specialists and highlights what organisations are doing to deliver effective results.

Understanding key policy and political issues facing the UK’s devolved nations

With elections due for the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments in 2026 and Northern Ireland’s ‘Good Jobs’ Employment Rights Bill in progress, we’ll be engaging with businesses, policy-makers and other stakeholders to help influence policy affecting the world of work.

Our briefing outlines and explains more about the key priority areas we’ll be focusing on.

Attract and retain top talent with a fair and competitive pay and reward strategy

A fair and competitive pay and reward offer can help your organisation attract and keep the best people, boost performance, and support employee wellbeing. But, to ensure your overall reward package is valued by employees, encourages the right behaviours and is aligned with wider business goals, there are many factors to consider.

This month, we’ve shared several new and updated resources to help you cover all bases:

Assess your resourcing and talent planning practices

Increased competition for talent, difficulties holding on to candidates and the need for more strategic workforce planning are key challenges. Based on findings from our 2024 Resourcing and talent planning report, we’ve developed a new quiz to help you assess your talent management approach and ensure you’re getting the best from your recruitment strategy.

Explore the priorities of employers and HR professionals in Ireland

Earlier this month, we published our annual HR Practices in Ireland study. The pace of change over the past year has been challenging for both organisations and people professionals, and the people profession’s contribution is more vital than ever.

Our 2025 report shares insight into key priorities, how challenges are being addressed and the current impact of the profession in Ireland. It covers everything from talent management and resourcing solutions to skills shortages and the readiness of organisations for artificial intelligence.

Celebrating the role of our profession this International HR Day

On International HR Day (20 May 2025), we celebrated the incredible impact of the people profession. Even in today’s digital workplaces, people are the lifeblood of any organisation. People professionals not only keep organisations alive but ensure that they thrive.

Whether you work in HR, L&D, OD or any other field of the people profession, and at any level, you drive positive change in the workplace every day. And that’s something worth celebrating!
