Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the learning experiences which help you develop and improve your professional practice. Your ongoing professional development doesn’t come just from formal or course-based learning, it comes from anything that helps you to develop and improve your practice.

Key things about our approach to CPD

  • Your CPD should be a combination of planned (you identify a development need) and unplanned learning (that can happen in the flow of work)
  • We recommend you spend around 30 hours each year on planned learning, complemented by learning in the flow of work.
  • The focus of your CPD should be the impact of your learning and how you can apply it to your professional practice.
  • A development plan can help you to ensure your CPD is contributing to your professional goals.
  • Reflecting on, applying and sharing the impact of what you’ve learnt will enable you to get the full benefit from your experience and take control of your development.
