Danilo McGarry will work with the CIPD to support HR professionals as they navigate the risks and opportunities AI brings to organisations
The CIPD has appointed Danilo McGarry as a strategic adviser on AI to help deliver support and guidance for people professionals as they explore how the technology drives business productivity and better jobs, while navigating the moral and ethical questions it presents.
A former head of AI at Citigroup and UnitedHealth Group, Danilo has run some of the world’s largest AI implementation programmes. He is a keynote speaker, podcaster, writer and thought leader on AI and technology, and has served as an AI adviser for Fortune 500 companies and governments.
He has also delivered AI training courses in partnership with LinkedIn Learning and the Financial Times, and ran executive training programmes for top consultancy firms.
Danilo will work with the CIPD to develop the support, tools and guidance the organisation offers employers and HR professionals, as they seek to understand the business benefits of AI and respond to the impact it is having on organisations, work and society.
He will also support the CIPD with its research into the impact of AI on people, work, organisations and the people profession, and will support the CIPD’s ongoing work as part of the government-backed BridgeAI programme.
“I look forward to helping support the people profession in its role in delivering on the great potential for AI to help create better jobs and working environments for people and positive outcomes for organisations.”
AI is reshaping jobs, careers and workplaces, and HR professionals have a leading role to play in identifying and responding to the risks and opportunities it presents. The majority (61%) of senior leaders who responded to the CIPD’s 2024 member survey said that navigating the use of AI is a problem for them.
The CIPD is encouraging employers to lean in to AI and explore how it could drive productivity in their organisations, whilst making sure human oversight is still part of their processes.
“AI presents many challenges and opportunities for employers, and we’re likely to see significant shifts in how work is done and the types of work people do. This is a significant agenda and opportunity for the people profession.”
