Changes to the CIPD’s Code of Conduct and Ethics

The Code of Conduct and Ethics sets out the obligations of all CIPD members. We take concerns regarding alleged breaches of the Code very seriously and will continue to do so.

We review our Code of Conduct and Ethics regularly to make sure the Code continues to fulfil its purpose as the people profession and the wider world of work evolve. We recently ran an extensive review of the Code, putting stronger emphasis on ethical practice.

We ensure that the requirements of the Code are well reflected in the knowledge and behaviour standards of the Profession Map.

What’s the difference between the Profession Map and the Code of Conduct and Ethics?

How is the Code of Conduct and Ethics enforced?

The Code of Conduct and Ethics applies to all CIPD members, including Student Members. Anyone can raise a complaint if they feel the Code has been breached.

We launched our Code ten years ago. Up to the end of June 2022, the CIPD received over 973 complaint enquiries. Where a case has been found, sanctions have ranged from advising members on their future conduct to permanent expulsion from the CIPD.
