Good morning or potentially good afternoon and maybe even good evening to everyone who's joined us today. As Tim said we're recording today's webinar so we'll send out a link to the recording and also we'll send you the slides. So, no need to scribble down any notes in the best style of the training
course.

CIPD, we've talked about the fast changing world of work over the years,
but now more than ever there's a global zeitgeist for not that none of us can afford to miss. In our responsible business report one prominent CEO is quoted as saying this - "Throughout this crisis, HR has been completely front and centre, come at the hour, come of the HR team".

There are times in the business cycle where you think hr teams are just doing process, but right now that's not the case and it's not just classic HR - the learning development team. So, I'm sure some of you, have had to switch to
purely online delivery practically overnight and are still doing it now. Companies are seeing a strong need in the skills and communication in digital business,  in developing and actually implementing.  This agile organization, that's been
talked about for a while. And even after well over a year, they're still coming out for advice on how to actually implement remote work and remote work policies.

Then, more recently there's been this great resignation - very good story, very big story in the UK.  What this means for recruitment etention - this idea that skills are the new currency compared to a reliance on sector experience is a key indicator of success.  We've got the growing use of AI in businesses and what this actually means. In terms of putting people and analytics and stuff like that on the map in HR, we've got workable and legal vaccine policies.  The ongoing focus on health and well-being of the workforce and employee resilience.

There's an awful lot to keep us busy and just as finance directors morphed
into chief financial officers (CFOs) during and after the 2008 financial
crisis and have greatly increased their scope since. Chief HR officers
now have that same opportunity to become central C-suite players.  Something that the practice, the profession has been banging on about for a while. Such  massive changes - escalating the importance of HR's role within organisations.

And workers to turn to their managers and their people leaders in particular for guidance on how to navigate this new normal or the next normal or just the coming few months. Setting the people profession up for a sustainable future is at the heart at the heart of business has had a real boost.

We've got to remain future focused supporting the profession to thrive wherever the future may hold.

As Tim said, I'm Simon Graham,  I'm Head of Qualifications at CIPD. I've been at cipd for just over two years now.  So, I joined just before lockdown and now work with a whole load of people.  I've never actually seen in the flesh - these are today's topics; we'll have a look at these qualifications, then we'll show you how to narrow down the choices what they are and how to study.

And rather than us just telling you stuff and what it should be like - we've got two people, who are far better equipped to tell you. what it's really been like for them. Susie and May who are both studying right now, well not right now. I mean this webinar; but they are kind of actively studying.  Susie's studying the Foundation
Certificate and People Practice and Maeve is studying the Associate Diploma in People Management. So, we'll get to that in a little while.

Our mission at CIPD is to champion better work in working lives and one of the key ways we'll achieve this is by equipping people professions to thrive in this changing world of work. But, what does this actually mean well if we pull out two elements.

Professionals, what does being a professional mean - well, it normally means people with specialist knowledge. I mean, when we talk about professionals, we generally think of lawyers and doctors and accountants. Before that, they've got specialist knowledge that you know the normal person on the street doesn't have.

 And they prove this through credentials, normally qualifications and ongoing licenses to practice keeping themselves up to date. They're quite often in regulated professions, so there's a real kind of you either are or
you want a doctor.  I mean there's no pretending you're a doctor - and they also strive to set common values around how they treat their their
customer base, their clients, their patients. there, the people that they work with and and serve.

And this whole change,  I mean we mentioned and i'm sure it's been mentioned before.  The whole furlough homeschooling, which thankfully, as a father of two daughters of 11 and 12 has pretty much come to an end. There's this idea, do we work from home, do work in the office, do we work from anywhere. Can we work in a coffee shop. Do we just actually know where in the world we are.

There's the recruitment challenges i mentioned - inclusion, diversity - there's a lot of change going on in the world.

 So, why become a qualified people professional. Rather than trot out loads of facts and figures, I've pulled out two which really resonated with me now.  73 percent of people who recently qualified for the CIPD stated that they proved they had progressed their career within three months of obtaining their
qualification. So nearly three quarters of people progress their career within three months obtaining their qualification. And let's be frank about it, we do see that career progression is a really strong driver from people gaining qualifications or wanting to create qualifications. 

And the flip side of that is - 81 of those recently qualified people are in a role where CIPD qualifications are preferred or essential, so although we're not in a regulated profession like doctors like lawyers
qualifications are seen as increasingly important in the role of the people professional and it's putting that
profession on par with other professions that we're looking for so what are these qualifications let's
have a look we've made far-reaching changes across
the qualification portfolio so if you've been interested in doing one for a couple of years the sort of things we've
changed are we used to have 17 qualifications we've reduced this down to five
we used to have things of different sizes at different levels across different practices across hr across lmd
but we've really narrowed this down which means a qualification is a far easier choice to
make importantly to say that the new qualifications align with cipd
membership levels and the impact levels of the profession map those who don't know about the profession map it's
basically the people profession competency framework and everything we
do the qualifications and cipd membership are all based on that and that map which was developed by i think
about 19 000 plus people in conjunction so it really is a
large body of work and the final one which some people
really like but actually there's a small group of people kind of like exams just to be clear the new qualifications have
no exams there is none of this idea that you know you will be locked in a dusty room
uh with someone peering at you while you write for two or three hours which let's face it no one writes for two or three
hours these days i get tired if i write two post-it notes um but there are no exams all of the assessment of these
qualifications is done via coursework so there are some deadlines in your
study center that you sign up with will have deadlines to meet but the actual you know there isn't this idea
that you have to turn up even virtually and do something um the test of memory and technique which is a lot of exams
are so the qualifications themselves here are the five
we've talked about the framework this is them at the foundation level is the certificate in people practice
moving on and up from the foundation qualification is the associate level qualification offering it's two at this
level diploma in people management with diploma in organizational learning and development
and at advanced level there are also two qualifications following the theme there's a diploma in strategic people management and a
diploma in strategic planning and development so let's start at the beginning with most people's entry point and the
qualification design just for them the certificate and people practice
this is what it looks like that's not really what it looks like it means kind of description of it i don't know what
qualification would actually look like if you saw it out in the wild um with the foundation certificate and
people practice this is really a qualification designed to kick-start your career with confidence it's an
entry-level qualification that's been designed for people professionals working in or looking to find their first role in the profession it'll
provide you with a solid grounding in all aspects of the people practice the knowledge skills and introduce you
to the behaviors to deliver tasks that benefit your organization at an operational level this is very much a
qualification designed to to develop those doing skills and the confidence to support positive
change for your colleagues and organization on the bottom left you can see some of the typical job titles that people have
or aspire to when they're doing this qualification it's not an exhaustive list i mean there are many many many
many job titles out there in terms of structure there are four
units within this qualification you can see them listed there business culture and changing context principle of
analytics core behaviors professionals and essentials of people practice
there's some geeky qualification stuff as well it's what's called a level three qualification now level three is a
there's a number that gets used in uh england wales and northern ireland
but what it means is it's educationally equivalent to an a level
or the sort of qualification you would do as a 17 18 year old so it's that kind
of level in terms of difficulty so as i said what we're looking for here is we're looking for practical
useful stuff but we're not looking for you know esoteric theories and things like that
in terms of that glh thing again that's another geeky thing 120 hours guided guided learning hours 120 learning hours
that kind of means that's how much um time you'll have to spend learning you
can pretty much double that to about 240 240 hours to say well actually how much
time will i spend having to learn the primary stuff so stuff i don't know at the moment
refresh myself prep for assessments do the assessments do all the reading around all of that
sort of thing so 240 hours is rough you know it's kind of an average amount of effort that needs to be put into this i
mean it sounds like a lot i mean it sounds like 10 solid days but of course go to sleep and stuff but most people take around 8 to 12 months
to complete this because a lot an awful lot of people have got lives and are working as well
based on feedback from employers um when we developed these qualifications what we asked for was they said could the entry level
qualification which this is it cover both the classic hr and l d
um disciplines because they really want to emphasize um that people early on their careers
potentially haven't decided which route to go down and also there's a you know i'm sure a lot of you know this is the
strong intertwining relationship between those two you know developing capability um measuring capability and also they
wanted a very um strong emphasis on the business context
of the people profession so that's why one of the core units in there is business culture and changing context
so that's the foundation significant people practice let's move on to
the next level so there's two qualifications in here as i said
when designing these qualifications we've worked really hard to eliminate duplication so if you're progressing
through from the foundations to people practice to these two there's not you know you're not
repeating learning you know you know trotting out the same stuff um as well you don't have to do these in order so
you don't have to hold the foundation certificate people practice or something equivalent you can directly enter any of
these qualifications it's not like you know you have to do a before you can do b there's no formal entry criteria
let's have a look i said two qualifications at this level in terms of level
this is a um what we call it associate level um in geeky qualifications terms
it's level five to put that into a context that most normal human beings understand that's kind of
midpoint in an undergraduate degree so kind of the second year of an undergraduate degree is the equivalent
of what's called level five so we're talking degree level between bachelor's degree level for this one so it's a bit
more difficult behaviors in this um start to come to
the fall they're very much aligned to that profession map around ethical and professional behaviors and the structure
allows you at this point to specialize in either the classic human resources or learning development
structures a little bit different in here so we've got three core units those cool units are common across both qualifications
we've got three specialist units and that's where the differentiation comes between the people management and the l d
and then there's a list of optional units that are available and you just get to choose one of those so basically
it's a seven unit qualification which the first one was four unit qualification
which one's right for me well there's probably a bit of a clue in the titles um but there's a bit more information on
here i won't go through all of this it'll be in the slide deck you can have a read you can see the sort of job titles down the bottom you know hr
business partner versus l d business partner so pretty obvious split between are you in the hr stream or the l d
stream at this point in terms of time we're seeing this one take between
i mean this is a guide but between 12 and 18 months depending on how where people choose to
study so it takes a little bit longer you can imagine seven units compared to four so
it's going to take a bit longer this is a load of detail again it'll be
in the pack so don't worry but you'll see the core knowledge and behavior there are
common across two qualifications and then there's the specialist knowledge the middle column
kind of middle column which is to differentiate it between the people management the l d and then optional
units are based on um which qualification you're doing you'll see there's some overlap there's a well-being of work for example diversity
inclusion big topics um they're optional units in both qualifications
that's just highlighting the core knowledge and behaviors being the same so next one along
is for experienced people practitioners so the idea is you've already proven
yourself now it's really time to take the lead and check the future of the profession and the future of your
function within your organization so there's two qualifications here again split between the people management the
l d on successful completion of either of these qualifications and actually as you
might guess the associate diploma you'll be eligible to be an associate member of the cipd
the differences with the advanced level qualifications you'll also be eligible to apply for chartered membership there
are some criteria around that that i won't go into it's all on our website but actually the advanced level qualification gets you pretty close to
being a chartered member as well in terms of structure
kind of similar idea to the associate ones you've got one more core unit in there
you've got three specialist units again that's the differentiator between the people management the lmd and an extra option so this is an eight
unit qualification again in geeky terms it's level seven again to put that into context for most
people that means master's degree it's a postgraduate degree level so this is getting quite up there in terms of how
difficult it is in terms of guided learning hours it's
quite a lot more so it's 240 guided learning hours which means about 480 500
hours worth of effort to put into it so it's a big jump up from foundation big
jump up from associate don't be fooled by this just being kind of one more unit these are quite chunky
units as you might expect this is a qualification at this level again some example job titles here
and just in terms of time frames we're seeing this taking between 16 and
24 months at the moment for people to complete depending on how and and way you choose
to study but you know a year and a half to two years-ish that's kind of the typical time frame
and in terms of uh detail you can again this will be in the pack that we send out so you can see the common uh core
there then the specialist knowledge is where the differentiation comes and again you'll see some overlap in terms
of um the optional units so well-being at work being a common one that's not the
same well-being at work unit by the way you can't just nick it from the previous qualification use it here it's that's at
this level and you also see options like managing people in international context which is
which is quite popular popular unit as well
study options so we want uh cipd qualifications to be
as accessible and flexible as possible um you can do within reason you can do the units in within the qualification in
any order um then you can choose a range of ways to study
main ways to study and you can guess which one's been most popular over the last couple years and continues to
remain most popular with about two-thirds people students choosing to study completely online now
so um there are options to study these qualifications completely online either
with live lessons delivered at set times or on-demand content although most people
most study centers that are offering online have a mix of live
sessions which are also recorded and some on-demand content you can do you know
your own time and pace the other option and again this is the more traditional option is that
face-to-face one typically delivered more at colleges um you can actually get to see real people
you get to read meal meet real people in person a lot of the face-to-face
options at the moment are quite limited although we've seen them then come back and obviously during lockdown they've
been switched to online but we're seeing the face-to-face options coming back and also there's the blended option so
we classify um how you can study into one of these three options which lets you find the
right study center for you blended bit of face to face bit of online stuff the mix is something that's always worth
checking how much of each there is especially when it involves travel and being there at the set time
so moving on to making the choice
it's not really to amaze at all i use that graphic just a few steps to consider
so we'll look at the three choices three steps to starting this qualification journey
what how and where but first of all a quick word on how
these things i keep mentioning called study symptoms now you might have done some qualifications before you might have
done them directly with um probably all done some qualifications at school before
but you'll have done them directly with the with the school now think of when you were at school think of the school as the study center
the qualifications are actually by ed excel or something like that some other body but as far as you're concerned you
went to school you did a qualification you've got a piece of paper or an email but probably both at the end of it
similar setup with cipd our qualifications are delivered through we call study centers those study centers
all go through a rigorous approval process they're all subject to ongoing monitoring and they're all subject to
what we call moderation which is actually where we check whether the marks they're giving you
are the marks that we'd give you as well so we're looking to make sure the standards are upheld
primary thing you're going to get from a study centre is obviously access to all the learning resources the teaching resources and they'll be the one
handling the dishing out and the initial marking of your assessments okay so they're
quite important in the journey
in terms of choosing a qualification you're probably looking at those five qualifications going do you know what i
know which one's for me another way to look at it is foundation is all around that kick-starting um your
career associate is going from kind of supporting people to driving people so that's where you're looking probably for
your first big promotion it's around that kind of point in your career and advanced is when you're looking to take that senior role or demonstrate a more
senior ability one of the main reasons we see that people don't
complete a qualification is that they choose too high level so when you're considering this really have a good read
through the syllabus quiz the study center get their advice you know they do this
hundreds and thousands of times a year um they'll help you they'll help guide you to the right one but it's probably
reasonably obvious when we had 17 qualifications it was a little bit trickier to pick the right one it's probably not too bad now
[Music] the other thing we've got is if you go
onto the ipd website you go to that learn development and connect area and choose cipd qualifications there's this
little um it's like a little interactive poll thing that you answer a few questions
and it kind of guides you to the right answer so it's like a little quiz and so you can use that as well i'll put a link
down there and that link will be in the slides when we send them out as well
study center choice this is the biggie this is the these are the people you're going to have your day-to-day contact
with these are the people who'll be helping you through this process on a regular basis
there's three main elements here well actually do they offer the qualification that you want
do they have a study method that suits how you want to study do you want to study completely online if you want to
study completely online do you want to do that with a lot of live sessions a lot of video type content or do you want
to do that more kind of you know e-learning style and also price
we don't list prices on our um center finder tool that helps you make this decision it's probably because they
change an awful lot um but we'll talk about price in a little while
in terms of helping you make this decision we've got another tool
it's called findercenter.cipd.org and it helps you just narrow down the choices of study center
so you can see the obvious one is filter it down by qualification then you can filter it down by study
type then even when you filter down by study type there's some more um filtering and
stuff you can do it's really like going through amazon and kind of you know finding the right results and then filtering it down to save their prime
delivery to you know what price is it that sort of thing if it's face-to-face you could choose
part-time or full-time um there are very very few full-time options these days it's pretty much all part-time
study reason we've chosen location as an important one is you might go oh
highlands college they offer some full-time face-to-face tuition
always worth checking the location before you sign up to anything that involves turning up in person because you can see from where uh wimbledon is
which is where we're based to highlands college which is in jersey takes a few
hours to get there so that's why where's important you might think it's strange currently
if you choose to study online which you could be doing from the comfort of your own home completely
um we're still on our location to be an option now the reason we've done that is we've got online providers in the uk but
we've also got them in other areas of the world now if you're looking for an online live
type study you know where you are basically doing what we're doing now which is um
listening to people and again getting to ask them get to ask some questions and stuff time of day is quite an important thing
and if you're looking if you're based in singapore for example and you choose a
uk based center online live content you could find you're either getting up
very early or staying up very late at night so location then allows you to to check the
basic the time zone of the provider you're looking at
finally there's a couple of other things you can do on this tool one of the things is you'll see this icon for tailored programs and you can sort to
put those at the top tailored programs means this particular study center
will um will be able to take quite a bespoke route to putting together a study program for you so what they'll be able
to do is assess what you already know and fast track you through things you already know and concentrate on the
things you don't know so they'll do a bit of a gap analysis with you to help minimize the amount of study and
obviously the amount of time and i mentioned prices earlier a few
points and prices um these are put them in pounds and euros although i haven't changed only the euro rates changed
massively recently so they're typically what you're looking at in terms of price ranges
quite a few study centers especially the the big online guys run sales always keep an eye out for
those these prices and again quiz you study center before you sign up with them but
these prices should include everything so they'll include access to all the content all the
assessments all the tutor and study support access their online platform if
it's a face-to-face one obviously you know being in front of the tutor registration etc etc etc
it's always worth as well checking whether they include cipd membership because as
an active qualification studyer you're required to be a cipd member as
well so it's always worth asking whether they include that in their price if not it's not that expensive it's
about 90 pounds but i think that's more than enough from
me shall we have a little chat to um real people we're all real people but um
um doubt you need a sip of water after that thank you so much just a little bit

okay mate all on you for a minute um i've just got a couple of questions really i mean it says on there which
qualification you're doing and who you're doing it with i'd just like to find out where you are in your kind of development your career
journey um and what drew you to doing this convocation in the first place yes so i am i had actually done now the
qualification when i did the level three it was actually called a foundation certificate in human resources so i had
done that and i basically self-funded that my like myself basically and after
doing that i was able to take on a little bit more kind of responsibilities in my role and my employer then spoke to
me about kind of progressing basically onto the level five um so i was really
lucky that my my employer basically you you'll pay for it to go on and do the level of life
yeah definitely um so i've actually i've now actually just finished the level
five so i'm just waiting for everything it's been externally moderated and i'm just waiting for the actual
qualification to come through and basically so i've now become kind of the
hr advisor in my organization so i had been just a project coordinator however
i've now been given those responsibilities glad i wasn't just
making enough about career progression earlier it's good to hear it actually yeah yeah it's good
so the main motivation was was kind of i'd imagine for the first qualification that you did as you said self-funded
that was very much your your choice your motivation and then now it's the
is your employer kind of encouraging you to progress your career yeah well actually a friend of mine now
this was back in ireland i currently live in the uk and a friend of mine had also studied the level three and she
found it great for kind of transitioning from what she did in social care kind of getting more into
that office based work which was something i was a bit more interested in and i hadn't yet went to university and
i was kind of in a limbo as to what to study um and i thought yeah if i start with
the level three it's kind of you know dipping my toe into it and i found what i found very different
about the level three and the level five was the level three was so practical i think you mentioned that earlier on
it was really practical um which i was really happy with it was really hands-on you know i actually had to do kind of um
like an example kind of recruitment interview and everything and then when i actually transitioned into the level
five it was a lot more strategic and so that was quite motivating for me
because in my role as my role was transitioning so was the qualification to the kind of the needs and
requirements that i i wanted no it's good to hear i mean
it's all very well us saying that but unless we actually and we haven't prepped you for to say these things by the way but it's good to hear i mean we
definitely have feedback that the foundation level the level three qualifications a lot of people call it level three the reason we don't say
level three is its qualification levels are different all over the world one piece of level three is level five and that's something but
the the the entry level qualification we try to make very um hands-on as hands-on
as qualification can be so you know it's writing job adverts it's writing you know stuff that can go on
linkedin it's not just can you try out you know theories and maslow's hierarchy
needs for the 87th time which we have actually pretty much taken out of all the assessments now by the way
so what's the so you said that there's been a good good impact in your job and career but um there's a there's a good couple of
hundred people on here who are probably about to study so have you got any um any top tips for anyone thinking about
studying or what you know for them while they're studying yeah so for me i i was quite lucky
obviously doing it alongside my job i was able to study while i was at work for you know through
throughout the week so that was good but i think what's really important while you're studying is basically having a
routine so i would say to myself you know i'm gonna study uh for two hours in
the morning before i go to work in two hours in the evening when i come home and three days like during the week and
so i think it's really good to set up a routine so that you know you're getting your hours in now i did progress through
the qualification really quickly that way so that's quite that's probably a lot of studying so you you know you
don't have to do that much but because i i basically needed the qualification to take on some extra responsibilities i
wanted to get as much in as possible and the other thing i would say if you're thinking about studying um either
whichever level or if you're doing the foundation or the associate diploma i would say have a look at um job
adverts you know maybe on indeed or any of those kind of um basically where you can look up jobs
because you'll see how in demand the qualification is so before i did any of these roads uh or sorry did any of these
qualifications you know i wouldn't have been qualified to do the jobs that i wanted to do and i actually recently got offered
another job because i had the qualifications so it is so in demand and i didn't take but you will see on most of you know
cipd or equivalent experience but it's preferred a lot of the time that you have that qualification and so it is
definitely worth it and i'd also say um you know the sooner you start the sooner
you finish basically so it feels it feels amazing at the end when you when you've got your qualification you got
your certificate you can frame it or whatever you want to do with it yeah we said we still still send out um
paper ones nice nice thick bit of paper you also get a pdf as well um because we know these days a lot of people haven't
you know they're not in offices with scanners and things like that so it's quite handy to send pdf around so you
mentioned a couple of tips there um routine and organized i mean that's i was terrible at school i uh and at
university if there was six pieces of work to do and there were seven days left before the deadline that basically
meant i had a day off i wish i was like far more organized and you know actually got the hours in this i said there is
kind of an idea of guided learning hours and what we also call total qualification time that's built into
these and that just gives you an idea of how much effort you need to put in i mentioned things like 240 hours but it
sounds quite easy but if you want to progress i can see a few questions in here if you want to
progress quickly through this i think that that idea of being you know getting yourself into a good routine and yours
is great because you did it for three days you didn't do it for five or seven days three days i think if you really helped you power
through it yeah i think if you ended up doing it five or seven you'd probably burn out and you would get to a slight treat
where you're almost sick of it to an extent um but i as well you know i would i would take
you know if there was any holidays coming up like christmas or anything like that i would i would take a break then also i just think it's good that
you give yourself that time to reset and also i suppose take in and let's sink in what you've been studying basically
yeah and you know breaks are fine um if you're if you think you're having a good you know a decent sized break it's always worth
talking to your study center and just letting them know and see if they can extend your enrollment or anything like that because most of them will say you
know especially as you do with ics which is a completely online um study option
you get a certain amount of time don't you yeah so with i have to say ics were also
great because i have um i have dyslexia and and so i was able to put an
extension on my court and i can't remember what the time limit was now exactly it was a certain amount of months and but i was able to put an
extension on on top of that because of my dyslexia and i didn't end up needing it because i actually finished the
qualification in just over six months um but
yeah i did i did really put my head down and kind of pull on with it but um having that like knowing if i had got to
the end and i had the extra three months i think was my extension it you know it gives you that comfort
yeah no so i mean six months it's really quick to do with um the
underplaned qualifications so congrats on that and passing everything of course did you pass everything first time just out of me you don't have to add me this
but just no i didn't actually the thing i'm most interested in is uh talent management
you know um that will kind of be my favorite well that an employment law um and talent management is the only one
i didn't pass first time i think i might have gotten a bit too confident and so i had to go back and do it twice
i mean that's an important point as well this this with the the way the assessments are designed
there it isn't a take the assessment and if you fail you get a whole new assessment so the
way that we've designed it the way it should be implemented and it's always good to check things with with as i say real people
is that you get a couple of goes yeah so effectively you get you get to you get to polish up and take the
feedback on board and have another go at the same assessment yeah which which i think is really helpful um because i know you can send a
certain amount of um points basically in a draft you can get some feedback on that you can't
obviously send in your full assessment as a draft uh but you can get some feedback so i suppose for that i took
kind of what i would consider um and always get feedback on that and
then actually submit the assessment and knowing that once you submit it the first time if you fail that's not it you
know you're not kicked off the course or anything you have another attempt at that and as far as i'm aware i think they've just brought in the option
there's three attempts now i think um but basically yeah like knowing that the first time isn't it it isn't the end of
the world if you if you fail it is it is quite a complicated thing i mean again that's that's more like
real life you know it's not about you if you do a piece of work and you you go to your your manager or your stakeholder
and go look i've done it if it's not exactly what they were looking for or it's missing a couple of bits they don't rip it up in front of
your face and chuck it in the bin and then go right do me something completely differently go can you add in some stats on this so
exactly and just going back to what you said about exams and you know really being a kind of a technique and a memory
thing you nobody sits down in their office to write a policy and doesn't
no i mean that's one of the reasons we really moved away from exams is i mean i've done this in other awarding
organizations and there is there is a strong element of technique and memory in exams even even
at a very high level even at advanced level an exam advanced level still involves this weird situation where you
have to pretend you don't have access to all of the knowledge that you'd have at your fingertips
constantly anyway even through a phone so yeah yeah it's one of the main reasons we moved away from they just
they just feel a bit old-fashioned yeah it's just not realistic yeah could i take you back about six
months and um think about when you were when you were just starting or probably considering
um doing this qualification the one you've just damn completed did you have any reservations at the start
yeah so i did um now i originally i'm only 22 when i had originally wanted to
go to university and but i ended up i didn't so this was kind of the highest level uh qualification as you say it's
basically like a kind of intermediate degree yeah so when i started studying it and my
partner had just finished his degree and you know he found it quite difficult but he had got through it so i was quite
nervous about taking on this level of education and i remember reading my first
assessment and just thinking oh my goodness i i don't know you can do this this just seems so difficult
um and i spoke to my tutor and i at ics learn and i explained to her you
know my reservations that i was so nervous i just didn't think i was going to be able to achieve this and she kind
of she kind of brought me back down to earth a little bit and was saying you know you started off by reading the
assessment have you actually read your coursework and i was like no she was like you need to you know the
information is in there you know that's what we're kind of here for we're here to give you the information and then you can build on it basically
and you know with her help she explained to me that you know she would help me kind of step by step through it um it
kind of brought me back down to earth a lot more and i was thinking yeah of course you know why couldn't i do this so many other people do
um so yeah i find that really kind of reassuring and no i'm holding it it worked you know i'm done
i'm there basically so yeah i did have i was nervous at the beginning but i would just say to anyone that you know might
be nervous if it's the highest level of education you've studied that you know why couldn't you do it if so
many other people every day do degrees and masters and everything of course you could
no that's good it's good to hear i mean it's always daunting isn't it when you're doing something you've never done at a level that you've never done before
um but we do know there's an awful lot of guidance out there there's there's also an awful lot of groups um
that you know there's discussion groups within i know within the ics learn platform for example there's discussion
groups but also there's whatsapp groups and facebook groups and stuff that have all been sort of sprung up these days
around people studying and there's an awful lot of people who've been there done that or in the same situation i mean at any
given time there's 25 000 of people studying with the ibd qualifications so there's going to be someone out there
who's worrying or concerned or has got the same issue as you and you can hook up with them and
work through it together yeah exactly i didn't um there was a great community within ics learn uh when
people were doing kind of assessments you know saying you know how did you feel with this question and blah blah now i didn't um
i didn't integrate myself into that as much as i could have done i think that's because i worked with a hr advisor
sternly to my company and he had done the level five recently and we used to speak a lot about it so i think he was
quite supportive towards me but there is that option you know there is a lot of kind of conversations inbuilt into ics
learns kind of technology basically yeah that's great just before we move on um have you got
any other any final tips for all these lovely people um
well i a big tip for me i know i said it kind of spooked me a little bit at the beginning but
i always found reading what the assessment was um at the very beginning
was really helpful so it meant you do get your learning outcomes at the start of every unit and but i found reading
the assessment and knowing at the end of this unit at the end of my studies i need to be able to you know answer these
questions i find that really really helpful um
it might work for everybody but that was what i found worked for me brian thank you very much mate it's
great to hear from you great to you um thanks mate yeah it's been going on and what was good there is actually as
we were going sorry to cut straight in and a lot of the questions that were being aren't asked you were answering as you were speaking so that was good so

potential study centers so if you're looking at the associate or the advanced level qualifications not all of them offer all
those optional units in fact most people offer like one or two optional units so there's a specific optional unit you
want to do if you desperately want to do that managing people in the international context find out whether they're offering that
optional unit um good question is how will you help me if i get stuck i may alluded to some of
the the offerings that ics um gave her do you include cipd membership i
mentioned that earlier if it's an online provider does the price that they quote include that i know i'm sure most of you will
know that being an additional tax i know we've got some people from outside the uk but that could be an extra 20 if it's
a purely online offering there probably will be that involved so just make sure installments payment always good
done about you i haven't got two and a half grand just sitting there waiting to do a qualification so we do know that an
awful lot of providers allow you to pay over 12 months or longer so you can split it up into a monthly payment
probably interest free as well um so that's quite handy resets and resubmissions the answer to
that should always be yes if you hear no let us know because it should be an all-encompassing price
uh as i said tailored tailoring the course to my experience you can look for that option on our centerfinder tool
helen.gas is the platform for and do you recall sessions and lectures it's all very well to say you know
there's a there's a live session with with tutor x at two o'clock this afternoon if you can't make it for any

So good morning well good afternoon or good evening, depending on where you are in the world. So, at CIPDwe've talked about the
fast-changing world of work over the years uh but now more than ever there's a bit of a global zeitgeist that none of
us can afford to miss in our responsible business report one prominent ceo is quoted as saying
throughout this crisis hr has been completely front and center come with the hour come with the hr team there
were times in the business cycle where you think hr teams are just doing process but right now that's not the case
and it's not just the classic hr that gets mentioned the learning and development teams have switched to purely online uh learning and
development delivery practically overnight about 18 months ago so companies see in this need for strong
skills in communication digital business developing an agile organization
and even after over a year they're still working out how to do remote work
just as cfos or finance directors have greatly increased their scope since the 2008 financial crisis
chief hr officers now have that same opportunity to become central c-suite players
such massive changes escalated to hr's role within organizations
workers are turning to their managers and their people leaders in particular for guidance on how to navigate this new
normal that's from harvard [Music] i'll just remind you if you're not muted
could you mute yourself thank you what's going on there
um so we're going to cover today because tim said i'm simon graham i'm head of qualifications cipd i
spent two months in the office for lockdown here and i've been remote working ever since
uh these are today's topics so we're gonna have a look at these qualifications then we'll show you how to narrow down the choices of what and
where and how to study then rather than us tell you what it should be like studying a cipd
qualification we've got two people who are far better equipped to tell you what it's been really like for them emily and daisy
you're both studying right now well probably not to study literally right now because they're on this webinar but you get get the idea
admission of copd is to champion better work and working lives and one of the key ways we'll achieve
this is by equipping people professionals to thrive in a changing world of work
so what does all that mean well actually from a professional point of view what do professionals actually look like well they normally have some specialist
knowledge if you think about the classic professions later people always talk about doctors and lawyers
they've got specialist knowledge they prove that especially this knowledge through some sort of credential some sort of training or certification or
qualification they're quite often regulated i don't think the um google professional ever get to the point that's regulated but elements of it fall
under legal regulation and also you would expect people who are in the profession to to
work towards common values so you know acting ethically and all that sort of thing and then the second bit of this is
changing um it'd be nice to have a webinar these days without mentioning the c word but
i'll try and avoid it but in the uk we've had furlough in many parts of the world we've had
schools being shot or homeschooling we've had this whole work from home worked from anywhere blended flexible
working returned to the office which i've occasionally just returned to work like we've not been doing anything for last
18 months at the moment we're seeing challenges in the recruitment market um it's quite a
tight market out there um the power has definitely shifted towards the people being recruited we're seeing that quite
a lot um we're seeing a lot of companies struggling with inclusion and diversity
issues and also how do you carry out um well-being initiatives in a more remote work environment you know it's great
when you get people together and see them but um there are lots of challenges and these
things aren't just gonna go away in the next few years
so why become a qualified people professional because rather than try out loads of facts and figures i pulled out
two which really resonated most with me this is the first one so 73 percent of people who recently
qualified for the cipd stating that they progressed their career within three months of obtaining their qualification
just a reminder if you're on the webinar could you meet yourself please yes sorry i'll sign simon apologies for
that i'm just having a look through i think a couple of people have got themselves unmuted i'm going to pop them a quick message i can see who it is um
simon i put myself from you and i'll pop them a quick message thank you cheers much we'd love to hear from you um if we
don't want you making cups of tea second one that um really resonated with me was this one so 81 of newly qualified
are in a role where cipd qualifications are preferred or essential for that role and that's something we've seen a real
increase in over the last couple of years so what are these qualifications
so what's new so we've introduced some new qualifications earlier this year in january they launched and um you might
be speaking to people in your company or you might be pondering this for a while so i'll just go through through what's
changed between what we're calling the pre-2021 qualifications and the the new ones
so before we used to have 17 qualifications uh loads of different levels loads of
different sizes and we spent a lot of time at cipd basically helping people work out which one was best for them
it turns out that there's not really that many choices out there so what we've done is we've reduced this to five
key qualifications which means it's a far clearer proposition and you'll hopefully see
them when i show you them on the next slide it's quite obvious to work out which one should be on there
new qualifications align with the cipd membership levels and membership aligns with impact levels on the cipd
professional map if you're not familiar with the profession map it's a big piece of work that we've been doing over the last few years
and continue to do it was about 19 000 people involved in it in the end
and it's really just a competency framework for the entire people profession so as you can imagine
the profession map lies at the core of these qualifications so there's a very strong link between the this sort of global piece of work around
what competencies people in the people permission should have it's easier to read than it is to say
um and what's in the qualifications the fourth one which should be quite
popular with an awful lot of people is there are the exams now that might seem weird for qualifications but
actually if you think about the work that you do day to day or the work you hopefully will be to me if you just need to the profession
there's not many times when you're expected to trot out an awful lot of information purely from memory to some
random question that someone's thought of so we've tried to make the qualifications a lot more real life and
a big part of that was making the assessment more coursework style so rather than saying well can you tell us
about maslow's hierarchy of needs like you ever need to remember that it's well actually can you tell us about
um for this scenario what the main motivators would be for someone in this role
so these are the qualifications five of them at the foundation level
we've got the certificate of people practice moving on up from the foundation level is the associate
qualifications there's two of those there's one in people management and there's one in learning and development they're moving on
to advanced level so there's another two qualifications so you've got the diploma in strategic people management
and strategic learning and development there's a bit of a clue in most the titles there about the levels but
there is a progression there let's have a look at each one in a little bit more detail so the start point for most
people's career is this foundation one and this is what it looks like
it's an entry level qualification and it's we think it's perfect for people professionals working here not
looking to find their first role in the people profession it'll provide you with a solid grounding in the general people
practice the knowledge skills and behaviors deliver tasks that benefit your organization operational level
and the confidence to support positive change for your colleagues organization i need to listen to this at least
there we go you'll see some job titles there on the
bottom left hand corner this is not an exhaustive list of course
i mean there are job titles upon job fair has been job titles out there it gives you some idea of the sort of jobs
that people either aspire to or have when they take this qualification typically this one takes about eight to
twelve months to complete there are four core units um as in everyone does the same units you can see
them towards the top right based on feedback from employers um this qualification covers both what
people would call the classic hr and l d disciplines as well as adding a strong emphasis on
the business context that people work in moving on from that one to the associate
level qualifications i said we've got two levels two at this level uh just to point on membership outcomes um when you
complete one of these qualifications you'll be invited to if you aren't already at that level of membership
upgrade further certificate people practice to foundation membership and for the diploma in people management to
associate membership one thing to say is this isn't a bit like gcses and a levels in that you have
to have done the gcse before you do the a level if the associate qualification is right for you you don't have to do the
foundation one first the foundation one just gives you a guide about what you should kind of know
before you start from the associate again kind of think of it a bit like we'll actually have to do a mass a level
it might be useful if i knew the stuff in maths gcse
so the associate diplomas idea here is you're no longer supporting
changing your orgs in each organization you're helping to drive it so we've got two qualifications at this level one on
people management one on organizational learning and development said behaviors in here are aligned with
the profession map with a real focus now on the ethical and professional behaviors that you should be building at this level
and the core of both qualifications are the same three units on the left hand side and what we'll do is when we send
out the slides i'll include like the full um qualification specifications you can see all the units but rather than go
through those now just get through this slide for brevity then the the three specialist units in
the middle there that's where it becomes the people management or the l d thing so there's different specialist units
and then one optional unit so you remember the first one the foundation certificate was four units this one's
seven just a few bits very basic adding up um this one we talked about has been
kind of the equivalent to like the second year of a degree not in size but just in terms of kind of
difficulty or you know educational level
and moving on from there to the advanced qualification so this we're looking these are more aimed at
people and this isn't exclusive but they're more aimed at people in leadership positions so you're kind of you know business partners your heads of
your directors people looking to shape the future of the profession and the shoot for the future of their
organization so there's again two qualifications here on the people management learning
development side successful completion of either of these you also receive associate membership of
the cipd but the big difference here is you'll have the eligibility to apply for the chartered membership
should that be something that tickles your fancy again similar structure to the associate
level qualifications here you've got four core units that are shared across the two and then move on to choose
the three specialist units so there's a group of special these three specialist units for the people management a group
for learning and development and then one optional unit so this is an eight unit qualification
now it might be tempting to go oh do you know what that's only one unit more than the other one but actually in terms of
effort required and educational level this one's quite a big jump up so this one we would say is
educationally about the level of a master's degree so it's that sort of um that's the level
of difficulty and it's quite a big jump up in terms of the number of hours so we talked about
things like guided learning outs this one's about 240 guided learning hours
um which is a big jump up from 175 associate level
right so there's five qualifications [Music] be reasonably i wasn't obvious but it
should be you should be kind of going oh do you know what i think that one's definitely not for me that one could be for me that sort of thing there's
detailed specifications available on our website and i'll include some more information in the slides when we send
them out but really the key thing is well it's not a maze it's just a few
simple steps to consider when you're making the choice first one is what you're going to do
which qualification second one's how are you going to do it what method of study do you
want to use do you want to study online do you want to study in a college face to face do you want to do some sort of mix of the
two and then having narrowed that down which study center are you going to choose
and just well before we get into that just a quick word on the role of study centers how they fit into the jigsaw
study centers carry out many important aspects of this process they'll be your day-to-day contact on the journey so
making the right choice is actually really important at clpd we're responsible for their initial approval to offer one or more
reverse qualifications they don't offer all qualifications so again that's something definitely to narrow down
part of that approval we look at every aspect from their finances to how they market and present themselves but more
importantly we're focusing on their ability to give you a great experience when you're learning good support good
content that sort of things once approved we don't just let them get on with it we check and monitor what
they're delivering versus what they said they do and we hold them to account if they're not performing
one of the main ways we do this through process we call moderation where we sample the formal assessments
that you put forward and we check that basically what they're saying in terms of passing
failing distinctions that sort of thing matches what we'd um say if we saw it ourselves if we were
marking everything but the key thing with the study center is they're going to provide you with all the teaching and learning resources as
well as helping you scheduling your journey through the qualification they'll handle your queries
uh technical issues that you might have um questions about content helping you
through the process and also they'll be issuing the assignments that go with each unit to you
and at the end cipd are the ones who award you a qualification issue with your
certificate and invite you into the next level of membership
so choosing a qualification one of the main reasons we see that um
for people not completing a qualification qualifications they choose too higher level there's many ways to look at this level
stuff and i've alluded to a couple before useful guide is to think about each one in terms of educational difficulty
so i think we were quite a few people but not everyone um from the uk so
you'll probably know what a levels are so foundation is kind of the level of difficulty
um of the qualifications that you take around the age of 18 and that's probably applicable to most countries and say a
levels in the uk associate is that degree level so it's the same difficulty as a degree but it's
not the same science i'm going to take you three years to do let me take you about 12 to 18 months and advanced is
masters level and you can see some other sort of things that we use we talk about kickstarting a career from supporting to
driving time to take the lead the main thing to do is if you're in any doubt talk to us or talk to a study
centre or team okay so how to make the choice about study sentence
gone too far the study centers are a bit like
i guess sort of stockist so you've chosen the product you've decided which qualification now you need to choose where you're going to have this
experience and to help you out we've built a tool
you'll find this tool at findercenter.cipd.org and what it does it enables you to
basically do some filtering as you can see on the screen uh the initial set of results show you 516 potential places
which is quite a lot i mean that's sort of amazing levels of when you search for something
so assuming you've got a pretty good idea about which qualification you want to do first thing to do is probably just narrow that down so you're choosing the
right qualification no you're choosing a sore list of family providers sorry
from there how do you want to study they can just leave that as open but what we're finding is obviously over the last
18 months face-to-face has been um replaced by this sort of thing by um video type stuff
but actually with we're seeing oh way over half of people studying purely online and that's a trend that's been
building over the last few years so are you looking for that anytime
anywhere experience online or a more personal face-to-face one so you can narrow that down and when you
do narrow it down you get a couple of other options so if you go for online you can choose between
a mix of stuff or online live which is basically this type of thing you know webinars videos
that sort of thing or on demand uh on demand is pretty much you've got
access to all of the content it'll be supported typically by discussion forums and access to tutors and things like
that but it's kind of you know you set your own pace to some extent up there you can also filter by part-time and
full-time um to be honest pretty much everyone does part-time no one's doing full-time because it would just be weird
doing this full-time if you go down the face-to-face with the
blended roots then again you can choose part time off full time and key consideration is to look at time
commitments full time is very rare for professional qualifications pretty much everyone doing professional
qualifications is in work of some kind so if you really really want to do a full-time face-to-face qualification
right now there's only one option highlands college which isn't in scotland as i initially
thought it is actually in the channel lines of jersey
and that is why the final option when you're looking at face to face or blended you can apply is location
because you don't want to have a 17 a 7 hour 40 minute commute so you can choose your country and you
can narrow that down by um location within that country and you can show the results on the map and
things like that a couple of final tips when using this centerfinder tool
uh when you've narrowed down the search you can shortlist which is a bit like adding to a shopping basket or a watch
list um study centers and you can contact them directly you can also email yourself this the
short list should you want to ponder them and have a chat with anyone that might have done something
you'll also see tailored programs on there and you can filter by tailored programs a tailored program shows you
this center offers bespoke options catered to your existing experience so if you're looking for example for
people are offering the diploma in people management but you looked at the content of the qualification you go do you know what i
know a fair bit of this i don't want to go over stuff i think i already know choose a center that offers a tailored
program and what they'll do is they'll do a little diagnostic with them make sure that you know what you think they you know
is what they think you should be covering and then they'll tell you the program and basically don't get you to repeat learning you know don't waste
your time also another thing to do is with the diploma the advanced diplomas and the
associate diplomas ask the study center about which optional units they want so if you desperately want to do employment law as
your optional unit a lot of centers offer that but not all if you want to do well-being for example
make sure you're looking for the center that offers the right optional units for you i said this on that wheelie diagram a
quick note on pricing um there's quite a broad range out there
and there's quite a few options out there i think uh
colleges as a general-ish rule of thumb tend to be a little bit cheaper so if you see the word college in their title
tend to be towards the um the chief friend but they also tend to be uh sort
of a heavier blend of face to face you really are looking at a kind of local option there
um they all offer different levels of service different supports so definitely wisdom as i said different optional
units associate in advanced um just a note on apprenticeships as well apologies to those who outside the uk
where that um meaningless concept but the associate diploma in people management
is an integral part of the hr consultant partner standard so if your organization
is looking to use um levy money for example then that qualification is built into
that particular apprenticeship standard right i think that's enough groaning
stuff from me now let's move on to the real experience
so we're very fortunate today to have two live students with us

does that slide kind of oh there you go stopped halfway through so i hope you've got the um the
qualifications that you're studying correct on there um daisy you're on the foundation certificate and people
practice all right um i'm actually doing uh an associate diploma
i'm doing the foundation oh well someone's told me completely different so ignore those but
um and daisy have we got at least who you're studying with correctly
uh yes you have so yes yes learn okay so emily you're with avado yes
so um i've i've talked a lot about the qualifications and um you know the official kind of how to narrow stuff
down but i just i'd just like to put that out to you and just say you know starting off with um
how you how you decided to um one get qualified you know what was the motivation was it
just someone in your in your work which is quite common just goes you should do this or is it more in bed and then what
did you look for when you were when you were choosing to um to take out a qualification daisy if you could uh
a little go at that please yeah of course so the the reasoning behind um
choosing to study for this qualification um was mainly due to just sort of my
interest into a child really um i'd had a little bit of experience um
in university i did psychology so i kind of touched on that subject of people management
um but i wanted to kind of look into it further and in my current role um
there wasn't necessarily that that availability um to actually do that within my
organization so um i looked online to see what sort of courses i could take um in order to kind
of study for that and then ultimately look at positions that i could use my
qualification with so the first thing i did is i just went on to google search um and typed in um hr
course and sort of did a little bit of background research into
sort of the different providers um how i could do it because i was working
full-time so i was looking for a position that was i could study part-time in the evening
um ideally coursework that was on demand so i didn't need to be at sort of live
meetings and i could sort of fit it in my schedule so based on that criteria and managed to
narrow it down to isis learn um and yeah i mean they've been incredibly
helpful i mean all the materials on demand all of the
presentations by the tutors are recorded so you know if you need to do it in the evening then you can do and you can go
back to refer to it um and just the availability of the tutors as well if i ever do get stuck
um you know if i ever have any questions they are always available for me
um and to help me as much as they can um so yeah i said you know that that was
one of the main reasons i went with ics learn and also
with because i was doing it off my own back as well it wasn't through my my work
i had to look at something that was affordable as well and ics did have that payment plan as
well available to me um which has been incredibly helpful
that's good to you because um we do we do get quite a few people who think that studying online is just
literally like well not literally like um going onto netflix and consuming stuff but it's really good to hear that
you get the support from the tutors even though you're actually doing pretty much an on-demand um course where you're setting the pace
yeah no absolutely i think that is the main thing i realized from this i mean i was quite fortunate that
i've i went to university so i kind of had that sort of experience of studying um
but it is a lot of it is to do with reading material that's provided but then also then interpreting that into
the assignments they give you so it does require it still requires a lot of kind of thoughts
it's not just a case of kind of just reiterating you know what you studied you have to kind of put it in your own
words um there's no passive experience is it no no definitely not but it helps you to
kind of um you know use your personal experiences not necessarily in hr i don't come from
a hr background but just in daily life um in personal experiences i can kind of
use that and apply that to what i've actually learned that's great thanks um emily
so you're um you're with evardo how'd you go about making that decision
um so i actually come from more of a sales and product background um and
around a year and a half ago um just before the pandemic i
joined an sme in an administration role so my role involves um hr administration
tasks and i also do a lot of work on improving processes in the business
um and i have understanding of hr from previous work experience but i was
really fortunate with my current employer that they've sort of helped me
build up my foundation sort of from experience i've got from hr already but
um put me forward to do the course so i've been really lucky that they've um you know helped support me with that
um and yeah it's really good as a tool to help me you know enhance my personal
development and um you know my career as well and so far already the
i'm just about to start final unit and it's already really sort of strengthened my confidence and ability
um you know and understanding the role of people professionals in more depth and you know really sort of
helping me apply that to my day-to-day work
the final unit i mean i know i said earlier about we've tried to make the and this isn't a loaded question at all
this is entirely up to you that's this um we've tried to make the um
units far more um
if you could yeah if you could maybe try if you can hear us i'm not sure today why it's given the option to uh

so you said you're only on the final unit i know i said earlier the um the assessments are a bit more we're trying to make a bit more real life yeah
resonate with you at all did you did you feel like you were not being examined and bit more kind of practical stuff
yeah and that's you know one of the aspects i really enjoyed um so with evado the work is all online
um but what i really liked about it is that um you know they take all learning styles into consideration
um content
and the work itself you know it is true to life is you know things that you can actually sort of apply or draw on
experience that you've already had in the workplace and it's definitely you know
in manageable chunks as well um so yeah that's that's really an aspect
that i think worked really well thank you
and um you would you said your full-time work at the moment it's a bit of a question for both of you because it's something
that people quite often say um you've got any top tips for balancing working and studying
i was really fortunate with my employer um to i actually approached them and asked
whether i could split my study time with my working hours as well um and they were really forthcoming with
that actually because you know they can see the benefits of doing the course um and yeah we've agreed that we split the
time which was really helpful um otherwise i recommend that you know with the time um your personal time when you
are studying um to try and be quite structured with it and you know make sure that you don't have any distractions and that you've got an hour
or two you know when you can dip in um you know just to make sure you've got that structured time and um you know
you're able to really focus on it yeah absolutely i think for me it's
similar um unfortunately i with my position at the moment um
because i'm sort of in like a management position um in my current job i can't unfortunately
sort of make that time to study during work hours so one of the things i had to do was kind
of be really kind of strict myself and set myself some targets and deadlines just to kind of make sure that i you know
kept myself on track um and and made time to do it and
but also enjoy it as well you know it is a learning experience i love learning new things um
and i didn't want to make it feel like it was a chore it was something i had to kind of do it each evening
um you know i like to do with ics learn and there's little activities that you
can do um so it kind of breaks up the sort of the learning aspect and then you can
kind of apply what you you've learned into little activities which i found was quite fun as well
um so yeah there was just a variety of little tasks that you can do and it just made it you know more interactive and
and more um just sort of more fun and more engaging as well which was really good especially
in the evening when you've been working all day and you could be a little bit tired um
it just gave you that sort of like spur of energy just to kind of you know sort of do that sort of units finish what you
need to study for the evening um and you you can absorb it as well better when you kind of apply it into kind of
real life situations yeah i mean one of the reasons that i went with um avado in the first place
was because they were really supportive um even when i just you know made my first phone call with them when i was
doing my research in the beginning um and the way that i'm learning it's um sort of guided learning
so we have deadlines um which works really well for me because i'm driven by goals and
targets and deadlines and things like that um so um but despite having those guidelines
um you know those deadlines in place um i found that you know if you do have an instance where you've been unwell or
you're going on holiday or you know something you know life happens and something comes up you know the team
are really supportive you get extension so you know it's not all black and white you know they they do help if
you know you need a bit more time or you know something happens um or you have any other commitments and
that are needed as well yeah life has this um tedious habit of getting in the way of your best life
plans doesn't it it does sometimes in a lovely way but sometimes
in a slightly less lovely way um it's got a couple of other things i
think it might be worth sharing um so we've got a couple of hundred people on this webinar who are probably
thinking about studying a cipd qualification are there any other tips that you give them um
daisy um yeah i think just sort of spend your time looking to make sure that the
course and the provider that you're picking is is right for you um i didn't kind of just pick the first one
that i saw on my search i did a lot of background research and rest um read a lot of testimonials
of people that also studied through ics learn to see what their experience was like and i really felt that was good to kind
of get that feedback um and also um yeah just making sure it's right for you
so with my particular one there's no sort of set targets or deadlines um
so it's kind of you have to kind of set that yourself and i for me that was a preferred method because it took a
little bit of the pressure off um but it still meant i kind of set my own deadlines to work to to make sure
that you know i did it within a sort of a decent enough time frame um
but yeah i think it's just just making sure you pick the right provider and the right course for you um
i mean just to kind of give you a bit of sort of a background as a result of study i mean
i'm still studying for the qualification but it's actually meant that i've actually been able to apply for a
position in talent management um and i have actually been successful i'm actually starting next week
congratulations thank you in my new position so it just goes to show even just kind of
showing that commitment and studying it can help you if you are looking to
get into that field um so yeah it has landed my ultimate job so
it's definitely worthwhile so you are one of the uh what's it i said the 73 have progressed their career
within three months yeah absolutely i was yeah i it gave me the confidence as well to know that
i i do have that knowledge and the capability to apply for positions like that and i don't think i would have been
able to even consider positions without having the sort of support of knowing that i had
this qualification i was working towards that's great thank you very much um any
other tips you'd like to share either of you i agree with daisy with what she said
about doing your research making the course making sure the course that you choose is right for you

at the cipd we've talked about the fast-changing world of work over the years but now more than ever there's a global
zeitgeist that none of us can afford to miss in a recent responsible business report one prominent ceo is quoted
as saying throughout this crisis hr has been completely front and center
cometh the hour come with the hr team there are times in the business cycle where you think hr teams are just doing
process but right now that's not the case and it's not just classic hr of course
the learning development teams that some of you will be in switch to purely online practically overnight
and companies from what we're seeing still need a strong skill set in communication digital
business then they're asking more and more for their teams to develop agile organizations and even after
what's been over a year for most of us of remote work they're still looking for skills in remote work because we're all learning
about this together
another quote here from harvard business review says uh just as cfos chief financial officers
have greatly increased their scope since the 2008 financial crisis chief hr officers now have the same
opportunity to become central c-suite players that's a lot of seas isn't it such massive changes escalating the
importance of hr's role within organizations workers are turning to their managers and their people leaders in particular
for guidance on how to navigate this new normal setting the people professional up for a
sustainable future at the heart of business has had a boost we've got to remain future focused
supporting the profession to thrive whatever the future may hold
i'm simon graham head of qualifications at cipd these are today's topics so we're going gonna look at these three
main things uh why get qualified the actual qualifications themselves and how to go about making some important
choices um as i said halfway through so after we've gone through the qualifications
bit we'll break for any questions and then we'll pick up any questions at the end
our mission at the cipd is to champion better work and working lives and one of the key ways we'll achieve
this is by equipping people professionals that's you guys to thrive in a changing world of work
and there's a couple of words i want to pull out of that professionals what does it mean to be a professional well the classic definition
of a professional is they've got some specialist knowledge you know not the sort of thing that's kind of you know generally available
they have some credentials to prove that specialist knowledge now that could just be through their status
their role their reputation but it could be through you know for qualification or membership status
and they share a set of common values professionals you know they tend to work in a similar way they have an ethical approach they
conduct themselves in a similar way the other bits in there that i'm sure none of you surprised to pull out is the
word changing you know the impact on these professionals there's been lots of recent impacts on
on the the people profession we've had covid i'm sure you know we'd like to have a whole webinar without
mentioning that c word um but we've had in the in the uk especially we've had things called furlough we've had a lot of home
schooling we've had people rapidly working from home and then going back in the office potentially and then going
back to home as lockdowns shifted everywhere around the world that's shifting now we're seeing an awful lot
of um information being published and a lot of um requests for guidance from cipd around
the kind of work from anywhere blended flexible hybrid working there's the ongoing issue around well-being
that's really was was gaining momentum before um kovid hit us but really with people not
being in the office has come to the fore then there's a whole kind of well actually do we want to go back to the office do
we want to commute do we want to travel do we want to do all of that sort of thing then there's the stuff that was happening anyway that was changing
the big rise of digital the reliance on data that hr professionals were getting the
game to grips with and of course inclusion of diversity with all of the george floyd's
black lives matter movement etc etc so that's the background now let's have
a look at rather than trotting out loads of facts and figures i've pulled out
two which really resonated most with me
73 who recently qualified for the cipd stated that they have progressed their career
within three months of obtaining that qualification that's one of the things that we hear
people say i want to progress in my role i want to progress in my organization how do i go about doing it
this would seem to evidence there's a link between the two
and 81 have recently qualified are in a role where cipd qualifications are preferred or actually
essential so we've been working at cipd with employers with recruiters
and with all stakeholders in the in the people profession and the wider ecosystem to really raise the awareness of
qualifications and professional membership of copd so you'll see it on loads and loads more job adverts you'll see it as a more of a
required status when applying for roles
but what are these qualifications what's new actually let's have a look
some of you might have been thinking about doing a qualification for a while some of you might be talking to people in your organization who've done
qualifications to the cipd we've made some far-reaching changes across that qualification portfolio that
um the new portfolio launched in january this year so some people might be talking about stuff that isn't quite
bang up to date so i thought i'd just tell you about the um the key changes we used to have 17 qualifications we've
reduced that to five we used to have things called awards certificates and diplomas across three
levels across hr across l d but we've narrowed this down
feedback from people who'd tried to choose a qualification and also importantly for employers was
that there was there was too much choice and the choice wasn't a good thing so we really made it
a cleaner proposition we've made a very strong alignment with cipd membership levels
and the impact levels of a thing called profession map we've mapped the content and learning
outcomes of the qualifications to this profession map the competency framework for the people profession so
it truly reflects the cipd membership levels the two are now handling glove as i said at the core of
the new qualifications lies this profession map this means that the new qualifications are based on the international standard
for people professionals equipping you to make the greatest impact and thrive in this changing world of work
and some good news especially for me because i hate these things when i was at a school in university there are any
exams um some of our old qualifications had some exams in them
for the new qualifications all of the assessment is coursework style so there's no you know locking you in a
dusty hall for two hours three hours making you scribble what you know on a piece of paper just seems crazy these days we're
interested in in real world tasks not memory tests
so i mentioned the profession map and this is the um the foundation
that cipd is basing its membership and its qualifications on and also things like experience assessment it sets out the knowledge and
behaviors required of the people profession as i said sets the international standard these people to make the
greatest impact that they can since it's launched about three years ago um the professional
actually very positively received by businesses people professionals academics across the world it's just been updated and remember it
is this professional this is the core of the cipd qualifications so enough talking about them what are
they these are the five at foundation level and we're going to
levels in a bit more detail in a while there's a thing called the certificate in people practice
moving on up from the foundation qualification is the associate level qualification offerings there's two qualifications at this level
the diploma in people management the diploma in organizational learning and development and that's where this is
the first distinction in this portfolio between what most people would see is the classic
human resource people management and the human resource development l d side and that's carried on up to
advanced level where there are two qualifications again both diplomas one is strategic people management and
one strategic learning development so you can guess by the use of word strategic it's about the big theoretical
stuff as well as the practical let's have a look at these in a little bit more detail
let's start the beginning most people's entry point and the qualification just designed just for them the certificate
and people practice so this entry level qualifications
perfect for people professionals working in or for some of you looking to find their first role
it will provide you with a solid grounding in people practice the knowledge skills and behaviors to
deliver tasks that benefit your organization and operational level and the confidence to support positive
change for your colleagues and organization you can see on there some of the job titles his qualifications applicable
not by no means an exhaustive list this thing typically takes about eight
to twelve months to complete from start to finish depends on how and where you choose to study
um we'll do a lot more on the how in the way later now one of the things that we have
changed with these is that this qualification covers kind of both sides of the coin it covers both the classic hrl and l d disciplines
and this was really feedback from employers that came through and um that made us design it this way
they said at the early stage of people's career they might think they want to work in one or the other but actually
they think that it would be good if people understood both sides you know what can hrm and hrd do
together it's got four units in there you'll see the units in the sort of top rightish
areas business culture and changing context principles of analytics as i said you know data analytics definitely not going
away and that's a theme that comes through cool behaviors for people professionals so all of that ethical practice and
stuff like that and then just really the essentials of people practice it's got a bit of business bit of analytics bit of
behavioral and really some core knowledge in there again assessment around this is around
doing so the sort of assessments that you'll be doing won't be can you remember maslow's hierarchy of needs
and that sort of stuff it'll be actually can you write a job description can you write a job advert can you write
a job advert that you could use on social media okay there's sort of the types of
assessment that are in there moving on not from foundation level is
the associate level qualification offering again there's two at this level i said um and designing these qualifications we
work really hard to avoid any duplication so although some of the content might be refreshed it's not um
it's reinforced at this level you can study this these diplomas for one of these diplomas
probably up to the same time um directly you don't have to do the foundation qualification so it's not like you have to have done
x before you do y you can go straight at the right level
what's involved here well there's three core units then there's three specialist units so
the core units are the same across those two qualifications so there's a common core then the three specialist units there's a set of three
specialist units for people management and a set of three specialist units for the organizational l d
and then there's an optional unit so you can basically just choose one from a list of available optional units um
to complete your qualification
typically this takes take about 12 to 18 months again depending on how where you choose
to study we included some typical job titles and you see the job titles have taken a jump up to business partner manager type
ones um designers i'll just let it rather than reading
that slider so you have a little look remember we're gonna send these slides to you as well so no need to scribble any notes
and on to the final step in our qualifications journey so advance level again
two qualifications on successful completion by these qualifications you'll receive associate membership at
the cipd that's also true for the associate um qualifications by the way associate advance both lead you to
associate membership foundation leads you to foundation membership but with the advanced ones
you'll have the eligible eligibility that's easier to read than say to apply for chartered membership at
that point based on some specified criteria so what do these things look like it's a
kind of similar structure to associate so you've got two qualifications in there you've got a slightly bigger core so four core units you've got three
specialist units again you've got three specialist units for people management a different three for learning and development
and then an optional unit this one you're probably looking at 18
months to two years to complete from start to finish there's a rough guide
and again we'll talk about levels as we go through
again there's some job titles on there you can see we've gone up from manager and business partner to more head of and
director levels and again these aren't job titles that you have to have these could be the job that you're aspiring to get
qualifications are quite often seen as a as a stepping stone you know a way to
bridge the role you have onto the role that you want to get

to study how to study so we always use our website our website's really really good it's updated you know
weekly almost you know every other day we'll be coming to that in a sec yes good yeah and that was one of the
questions on there so keep an eye out for that one and i will reply privately to that question as well for you
and we had another question uh regarding academics taking cipd qualifications and i think
you've met academics here maybe i'm wrong academician academicians so it says should academics
take up c i called cipd qualifications um yeah the the end the answer is really
it's up to you i mean the answer is up to you um if you look at the qualification you
think do you know what this is this is going to bring me up to date or it's going to expand my knowledge if you're currently working in a
business and management faculty in a university or college and um you think you want to
um add some more hr content it could be a great way of actually actually learning about the subject um
but really yeah we'll we'll have a look at how to you know to make the choice and where more more of the detail is but
really i mean it's your call at the end of the day yeah definitely and what we'll do is as
well there is a a route to an academic membership previously as well and there's you know there's been some
information on that some people did come in as academic members via our experience root but what i'll do is i'll answer back to
you on that one and send you a link on that one so thanks for the question a little question here about um
exams and the real world focus is someone saying does that mean you need to be working in
the field of study in order to complete the qualification um short answer is no we've got people
who are um coming to this completely fresh the the study center um we'll get to this
bit in a little while but the you know the study center that you sign up with to help you navigate all of this and and teach you about everything
will will get you there um whether you've got the prior experience or not um it's not mandatory at all you know
we've had people um doing both the the foundation and the associate ones without any experience
i'd probably not recommend going for the advanced form without an experience because it kind of starts off presuming you know quite a lot
um might be better to start with the foundation but um yeah there's no there's you don't have
to use um for example a real job advert for a real
role that you happen to be recruiting for at that moment for example you know they can be they can be theoretical and the assessment will say
we'll give you a scenario um around that uh awards um so awards are part of
one of the 17 um what we call the pre-2021 qualifications so they are completely valid they are a
respected qualification you know we're just introducing some new ones and phasing out the old ones doesn't mean the old ones are bad it's
just um we've just narrowed it down from 17 down to five um but yeah if you've just started an award
great carry on um depending on which unit you do that unit might actually count towards
basically get you credit towards one of the new qualifications as well so you can continue your journey
thank you simon a good question actually are our qualifications suitable for equality diversity and inclusion type
work yeah there's definitely content in there and if you look at the the professional map in which this is based
um and it's that's absolutely covered in there and there's some specialist modules around including diversity as well that you can
take yeah of course a huge part of the modern workplace and yeah you know going from our role qualifications to new
you know it's something that we did keep and we are you know we do focus on so that's a a yes on that one and we've got uh we're
going to go for another couple of questions before we carry on if that's okay simon yep sure um how long does the associate
level take it's typically kind of 12 to 18 months yeah or year to year and a half in old
language
um okay here we go let's have a look uh we've got hello there and so can we start studying foundation
level from the second year of a masters you can do whatever you want yeah
there's nothing to stop you if you're doing the masters you can do the foundation level that's right into your capacity yeah
yeah yeah and here we go oh good question i think
this is a question for the study center but i'll ask i i mentioned the questions it's a good question can you pay for courses
over a period of time easy monthly or all payments up front easy one yeah and we're going to come to
actually in a second yeah shall i leave that one simon for them or yeah okay good good so a lot of these questions again we've uh pre-empted and
we've got coming up so let me go for one more before i let simon carry on another question
yeah let's not do the card detail one again yeah yeah um would you recommend starting a
foundation level regardless or does experience other qualifications influence this um
so if you're new into the people profession or you're in your first role
you know you've you're just doing um kind of a supportish type role then i'd definitely recommend the foundation one
um i was gonna come to this later but i think it's important to point one of the one of the main
problems we see with people completing qualifications you know and by that i mean either giving up or
failing too much um on the journey is that they go a little bit too high
so someone says oh i think i might be able to do the associate one the associate level one
um and i've been working in hr about six months it could be a little bit too much of a
jump so make it quite a careful consideration i know it's a big decision
to make because it's it's not a question if you just do one and then switch to another but what any study center should also do
if they should go through sort of a diagnostic process with you so if they don't do that it's a bit of a red flag
they should go through a diagnostic process with you and make sure that you're sitting you know entering for the right
qualification at the right level i mean for example if you've bizarrely never done maths before you wouldn't
probably go and do a maths degree you'd probably start off doing some like basic maths and work your way up to it
and we quite often see people going do you know what i'll probably just do it because they might start from scratch i can probably um pick it up so
that would be my advice i'll just see if there's another one good bit of time um yeah thank you for your questions
guys uh like simon did say quite a few of the questions i've noticed are going to be coming up in the slides so
good questions you know good questions but you haven't forgotten about you uh we've got a lot of things coming up in the in the next sort of half an hour
let's just cover a lot of those questions but yeah thank you very much guys for engaging with us we appreciate it yeah and what we will do is we'll
kind of paraphrase these questions and probably add them to the slides before we send them out so i've just got a little one about someone who's in a
senior position already um would it be possible to still go for the advanced level is it equivalent to a
masters well funnily enough that's what we're about to talk to talk about
so let's move on and we'll come back to questions at the end i'll probably be a whole load more about study centers and
things so the important bit choosing the right qualification the right study method and the right
study center it's not really a maze at all it's just a few simple steps to consider
so really qualification method then study center
let's start off with a little bit of this stuff about levels because we've talked about them so the
best way to think about these three levels foundation associate advanced is foundation the phrase kickstart your
career should be sort of if if that's what he kind of feels a bit like you kickstart your career you know early
days first year in first few months in that sort of thing you want to get a good broad grounding
that's probably the one for you associate from supporting to driving
so that's kind of the next step up and then advanced is kind of the leadership position so that's where people are
looking for you for the big decisions i'm talking about big decisions about you know a single person's pay review or something like that
it's like reward strategy that sort of thing think of those steps up in difficulty um
there's a whole load of geeky terms and numbers qualifications people use they'll hear them talking about levels three
five and seven a b c x y zed most of the most the best thing to look at is
look at those phrases look at those kind of example job titles as kind of is this something that i'm
in or is this something i want to get to is this the next step in my career and if in doubt talk to us you know we
can help you guide through this another useful thing to think about is between foundation associate advanced in
terms of kind of educational equivalence so i'm this is this in size by the way this
is just kind of difficulty so foundation is probably the equivalent
in difficulty to what you did at school around sort of 16 17 18.
so in the uk actually most of the uk that would be an a level it's about a level difficulty
associate next step up is degree level difficulty and that's
what i said earlier about not jumping into too high up on the on the on the journey
an advanced his master's level to our master's degree
so that's what the three levels look like they kind of look like um something you did around sort of 16 17
18 in school kind of that level of difficulty but you know let's face it without teachers shouting at you and telling you
off associate kind of degree level and advanced master's level and if you think of them like that think
well actually i wouldn't go in and do masters in something i didn't know anything about i probably wouldn't do a degree in something i didn't know anything about
um but i might do it you know an a level but i said if in doubt just talk to us
hopefully the choice of a qualification itself within that is probably
pretty self-explanatory and one of the things one of the biggest feedback we did get with the old set of qualifications
with the 17 is there was just lots of lots of choices and it wasn't really clear what was the right one
so really at the moment it's it's choose the right level job scripture you know job job title you
know academic level whatever however you want to you know get it set in your mind and then really at associate advanced you're looking at
well actually i'm on the people management side or the l d side should be a pretty straightforward decision at that point
the probably next important decision and probably the most important decision after that is to choose
a study center now the way cipd qualifications work and this might be a little bit difficult if different to um
to um qualifications that you might have done or your friends or your family might have
done is all of the educational bits are delivered through a study center
the study center is a bit like you've found something you want to buy let's say you found a car you want to
buy now you need to choose where to buy it from so the cipd qualification is a bit like
the car and the the study center is a bit like the dealer or the place you actually go
and buy it to help you with all of this navigate
through all of the choices we built a handy little tool and the handy little tool is called finder center it's at that web address
findercenter.cibd.org i'll take you through a couple of little steps so i'm assuming at this point that you've um
you've chosen the qualification you want to go for let's say in this example i've chosen a diploma in people management
you might notice at the top there without any filtering so without checking choosing a qualification without
choosing a study method without choosing a location or anything there's 373 potential results
there's quite a lot of choice out there you know you're not choosing from two or three options here this will probably grow to over 500 this
year so filtering these down by qualification and stuff is it quite a sensible thing or you can get quite an unwieldy list
so since full filter first one let's pretend i've chosen diploma in people management
how would you like to study are you looking for an anytime anywhere experience online
or are you looking for something a little bit more personal
so if we just look at these so two years pre-friend pran the pandemic um there were only a
handful of truly online study centers that you could choose from now obviously you know pandemic lock
down hit um all of the study centers you know the universities the colleges all these guys
had to go online and they had to do it very rapidly and what we've seen now is that um even
as things are starting to ease off the online is by far and away the most common choice
with over half of cipd learners choosing to study completely online that's way over half
and we think that'll keep up i think people have kind of learned to to love the screen a bit more if you
like but online isn't just online there are a couple of little subtleties so over in the top right even if you
choose online you can then make a little bit of a tweak you've got two options about three
options in there really all just show me all the online stuff or you can filter it down
now the difference between live and on demand is probably pretty self-explanatory but i'll go through anyway live is a bit like what we're
doing now it's the classroom experience without the travel if you're watching a recording of this
webinar then you'll be aware also be aware of one of the other massive benefits of um of doing stuff online most study
centers record the live online sessions they do so the zoom sessions the team sessions the webex sessions
um that sort of thing so you can watch it again and again again you can pause it you can skip to the right bit
it's great i don't know about you but when i was at university doing lectures if you fell asleep or you
missed something you distracted that was it got online lives great recordings love them
on demand as the name implies is time for study where there's little or no scheduled events
or classes in inverted commerce and yes i was doing that stupid thing in my fingers when i said that um so that's really kind of pretty much
purely online content you don't have to be at a certain you know virtual location at a certain time
so good for kind of ultimate flexibility there there are a couple of minor you know
little things you probably need to bear in mind we classify something as either completely live or completely on demand
if it's over 75 so even if you choose live from that option
so most of those study centers will also give you some kind of on-demand content basically like extra reading type stuff
when you look at an online study option it's worth checking two things what the
mix of those two things is the live and quiz them about this and obviously do they record anything that's live
because if they don't that would be a bit of a red flag to me you might be cool with it but i like to watch things again and the
key thing with online is how do you access support from a real human being if you're stuck on a topic or need some
advice do they for example have scheduled drop-in sessions
do they have online forums you can post questions to and if they do who's manning those forums are they that
calls tutors what how quickly do they respond you know you're basically buying a you
know you're buying access to a qualification the course of study quiz these people about this stuff
so moving on to face-to-face the other options of course classic uh
face-to-face pre-pre-kovis um this was kind of the main way that people learnt
um blended was getting a lot of um traction as well where there was some
some online other sort of face-to-face type sessions and some typically you know content available on
a learning management system or vla like moodle again remember we classify something as seven as as face to face
if it's over 75 face-to-face so if 75 of the time you will be in a kind of
classroom type setting the other 25 or 20 might be some online
content again quiz the center make sure it's the right one for you of course big advantage with face to
face is you get to meet real people and talk to them face to face or networking as i think it's
cool these days but the kind of downside um is that you've got to travel and
you've got to be there at a certain place at a certain time and i'm saying the obvious but if you're late there's always that
walk of shame moment when you try and open the door really really slowly just prolonging the
creek from those rarely oiled hinges blended is a mix of face to face again
more than a quarter of the time delivered through online elements so it's really just a mix of online and face to face
again the online element of that blended option could be online live could be online on demand
it's likely to be a mix of two quiz the center make sure it's right for you
another key consideration is to look at the time commitment full time is very rare for professional
qualifications because you've already got a job so pretty much everyone's work of some kind
in fact if you really want to do a full-time face-to-face qualification right now there's only one option highlands
college which isn't actually in scotland it's in the channel island of jersey
and that is why the final filter you can apply is location because if i chose to go for
that one it would take me seven and a quarter hours to get there every day
so if you're studying for face studying face to face or a blend which includes face to face then you've got to be there at a certain time and place
location is going to be important factors we've just seen uh we kept this in for online so you can actually if you
choose the online study options you can actually um choose a location seems a bit odd
because you think it's online i can do it anywhere but actually um when we talk to people
they said that sometimes they'd actually if they're in um you know another part of the world they'd quite like to choose a center
which had um for example online live sessions scheduled so it wasn't really early in
the morning or really late at night so you can still choose a kind of a location also
tech support quite handy to be able to access tech support if you've got a login issue or something like that um what are their tech support hours are
they uk support hours or are they you know are they based in dubai so they're catering to the middle east market
and also the content um we had a question there about someone i think is in in nigeria saying they wanted to learn
about um uk employment law and stuff definitely quiz them about what sort of stuff they're
going to be teaching you because the syllabus allows them to cover local employment or labor laws as
well um also which language are they delivering in
we've had a lot of interest in the middle east about delivering all the learning in arabic that's great do it it seems ridiculous
to teach people in a language which is their second language so why would we force people to teach and then the students to learn
in our in english when they're all our arrows figures we're also on that point just looking at how we can make the assessment more um
local language friendly as well we're probably rolling it out later this year so for face to face and blended make
sure you choose the location otherwise you could have that nasty seventh core outcome a couple of final
tips on the study center tool by understanding still is you can do the sort of stuff you can do when you're
buying i mean it doesn't look as pretty as buying clothes and things but um you can shortlist people and it'll
put a little sort of it's almost like a you know wishlist shopping bag type thing together um so you can shortlist centers that you like
the look of um you can contact the centers directly from here so you'd have to work out
um on their website how to get in contact with them although most of them are pretty front and from straight and forward for that
you'll also see something called tailored programs on there there's a couple on there one acacia and what's one at watson martin at their
their range park location um tailored programs are great if you've if let's say you're looking at the
associate diploma in people management and you've been an hr business partner for a couple of years
and you look at the syllabus and you go do you know what i think i know a fair amount of this like you know 50 60
of this find someone who's offering tailored programs talk to them and what they'll do is
they'll go through a process of going well it appears you know this all we need to do is evidence it for the assessment and what it should be able to do is um
they should be able to tailor the program and cut out a lot of the um the learning the teaching time for you
and pretty much fast track you through so if you've got experience you know in one of those job just job
titles that we mentioned earlier always worth looking for taylor programs uh you can't filter by it
i don't know why i do know why but that's very long boring technical explanation but you can at the top sort by talents
you can bring them to the top of this list also remember for the um associate
diplomas and the advanced diplomas there's some optional units not all study centers offer all the
optional units so there's a particular optional unit you want quiz them about that
final point to bear in mind i know it seems like we've skirted around it but pricing so roughly what is it going to
cost so these are the kind of the ballpark figures now these ballpark figures
include everything so they include all of the
teaching teaching resources access to tutors support access to the virtual learning
environments um sitting all of the assessments getting your marks back basically everything from registration
through to qualification and getting your certificate
the reason there's a big variation in prices is that it's not like buying a kind of
you know i was going to say a brand their pop should we say study centers offer different levels of service
and different levels of support so as i said along with them if something's important to you make sure you quiz them
on it as i said they also offer different optional units for the advanced associate qualifications
and um some of them will be we will offer these as part of the apprenticeship and
apologies to those people outside the uk the apprenticeships are a bit of the uk thing um but if you're looking to
use um levy money then the diploma in people management is actually wrapped up
in the hr consultant partner standard so if your organization's looking as
said to use up levy money it might be worth looking at if you want to do that qualification having it wrapped in the
apprenticeship wrapper so what we'll do next hopefully you're a point now where you kind of
