Welcome to our branch

A hearty Yorkshire welcome to everyone and a thank you for your interest in our branch and what we do.

North Yorkshire itself covers 3,102 square miles, stretching from Scarborough on the North Sea coast to Bentham in the west, and from the edge of Teesside in the north to the edge of the West Yorkshire conurbation in the south. It's England’s largest and arguably most beautiful county.

Our primary aim, as a branch, is to help all our members to develop their knowledge, skills and potential wherever they are in their career and wherever they are situated geographically in our large and widespread county.

In organising a wide range of events, schemes, special interest groups, and engaging in social media platforms, we strive to create opportunities to exchange progressive ideas, working practices and thinking on HR people practice. Of course, your involvement with the branch is key for us to design and deliver relevant content, and I welcome any ideas that might help us achieve that goal.

As volunteers we take special pride in our commitment to personal and professional growth (for ourselves and for our members), ensure that we remain inclusive and accessible to our members, and above all else, at this challenging time, offer a hand of friendship and support to each other.

I have been Branch Chair since 2019 and I remain passionate about how we engage, inform, and support our local membership, organisations and institutions. If there is anything we can do to help support you, please let us know by contacting the branch.

The North Yorkshire branch has around 2,000 members and is run by a very dedicated and enthusiastic group of volunteers who work together on the branch committee.

We run regular employment law updates, themed seminars, and evening events on a variety of topics from September to July across North Yorkshire. Places at our events free to our CIPD members.

The North Yorkshire branch team look forward to meeting you at one of our events, whether online or face-to-face – event details and joining information are listed on Eventbrite, and publicised through our branch newsletter, which is emailed out to all participating members. If you would like to receive our North Yorkshire branch Newsletter, please sign up below. Please ensure we have your correct email details in order for you to receive these updates. You can update your contact details and mailing preferences here on the CIPD website in 'My Profile'.

Throughout the year, we seek out volunteers to join the committee, either taking on an active committee role or volunteering to be a friend of the committee and working on specific events or schemes. Volunteer opportunities may exist immediately, or we may contact you when a role or task becomes available that matches your skills and experience. Joining the branch committee will help us take the branch forward, raise your profile and expand your network whilst providing a diverse range of events for our membership. You can read more about branch volunteering below.

Our committee is dedicated and committed to making the branch a success and very much member-driven. To find out more about volunteering please email the branch.

The self-employed professionals group (SEPG) was set up to cater for the interests of self-employed HR/training specialists working in and around the North Yorkshire area.

The group meet in Harrogate every six weeks and the meetings act as an opportunity to network and a chance to support the members' continued development. They are a lively special interest group providing a variety of interesting topics for self-employed professionals, and support for new start-ups, including a new mentoring scheme for SEPG members.

If you would like further information about the group and the SEPG Mentoring Scheme, please email the branch.
