This variety means that our members have roles across various industries. Our branch membership includes people professionals working in private sector, education, manufacturing, health care and charity sectors and those who work as independent consultants.
This breadth of knowledge among our members is hugely useful, assisting us in championing better work and working lives, the CIPD purpose. It helps us support Hereford and Worcester people professionals wherever they are in their career.

Independent HR practitioners
Do you work independently? Are you making use of your local special interest group?
If you are a sole trader or small business providing HR support and services to clients, then you may already be aware of the existence and activities of the Independent HR practitioners’ special interest group (IHRP).
This is a sub-group of the branch set up some years ago to focus on the needs of the many independents operating within the region. Our main objective is to provide a forum for members to network and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed independently. Our SIG allows you to meet with others in a similar situation, sharing ideas and using each other as a sounding board.
Working on your own or in a small business may mean you have limited resources – IHRP enables you to develop relationships with other independents, so you can lend mutual support through or combine your different specialisms to meet a client’s needs.
IHRP offers you a programme of informative meetings on topics relevant to independents, where you can learn both from our speakers and other members and develop new skills.
If you’re new to working independently, or just wondering whether it might be right for you, come along and hear from experienced independent people professionals. It will be a great networking opportunity, open to all, and an be booked via Eventbrite.
Our branch coaching group has been active for several years now and all are invited, whether you work as a coach independently, within an organisation or use the skills of coaching in your role. We cover topics of particular interest.
CIPD research shows that more than 86% of organisations undertake coaching activities and increasingly it is seen as one of the most effective approaches to developing people at all levels and all stages in their careers. Our coaching SIG brings people together from all sectors, from business and independent practice, to learn together, gain fresh insights and ideas and share their knowledge and experience of coaching.
We organise events where coaches, mentors, learning and development specialists and others with an interest in coaching can come together, be inspired and learn from leading practitioners in the field and from one another. Our meetings are interactive, collaborative and provide a great opportunity to connect with a wider professional community.
If you are an independent coach/mentor, internal coach/mentor, or learning and development specialist with an interest in or responsibility for coaching or mentoring please join us.
