Welcome to our branch

Our branch's mission is to encourage and support the interests of CIPD members and wider people professionals within the South London Branch by providing support and advice, sharing knowledge, facilitating networking, promoting continuing learning and development and advocating for CIPD. We represent the views of our members and represents the diversity of our members. We aim to look after the interests of people professionals across South London.

At the South London Branch, we continue to work hard to provide a diverse and comprehensive schedule of free and low-cost events for our members, enabling us all to share the benefit and expertise of a range of high-profile speakers and leaders in our profession.

We value our members' contribution to our HR community and welcome ideas as to how to continue to meet the needs of people professionals at all levels. Currently, we're focusing on the following key themes:

  • The impact of post-COVID
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Equality, diversity ad inclusion
  • Employee experience

Our branch’s geographical area covers the Croydon, Sutton, Lambeth and Southwark postcodes and has around 3.400 members. We work together with branches across London to serve our members, people professionals outside CIPD membership and business leaders by engaging them in conversations about good practice in HR, L&D and OD, understanding the professionalisation of our areas and bringing Good Work closer to organisations.

Our priorities for the upcoming year include:

  • Organising events that are diverse and topical for HR, L&D and OD.
  • Improving and increasing engagement with our members and the people profession.
  • Working collaboratively with other branches in the London region and local organisations in South London.

Our online branch events can be watched afterwards via YouTube.

We're always looking for passionate volunteers from all levels of CIPD membership and experience as our constituency covers students and studying members, right through to senior practitioners at Chartered Fellow. We believe that the team should reflect the profession's diversity so everyone has something to offer and contribute.

If you would like to join the South London branch team and input into the multiple events and activities we’re organising to support and engage the people profession, from early starters to experienced, from generalists to specialists, please contact us by email.

Networking and learning

With workshops, round tables, panel discussions and expert speakers, our thought-provoking events cover everything our community needs. Network, learn and stay up to date.

Support for student members

Just starting out on your career? Want to meet experienced people professionals and keep up to date with all the topics you cover in your studies? We’re here for you as you study for your CIPD qualification.

We work with local CIPD qualification providers to engage with students, by being involved in their induction, where we introduce them to the people profession, the benefits of CIPD membership and advise them on how to progress their careers.

One of our highlights event every year is called HR Ambitions, which is focused on helping students and mid-career changers break into HR roles. As part of this, we host talks from leading recruiters, one-to-one sessions with career advisors and CIPD membership advisors, mock interviews, CV clinics and much more.

Member-to-member mentoring

We connect members who want to develop new skills and progress their careers with members who have expertise in coaching and mentoring.

Want to get involved? Got an idea for an event? We want to hear from you!
