Level 5 People Professional Apprenticeship

The apprentice is ready for EPA when they have:

• achieved English and mathematics at Level 2 or above
• passed the required units from the CIPD L5 Associate Diploma in People Management
• written and prepared a presentation scoping brief
• written and prepared a portfolio of evidence

The Presentation should be completed once the apprentice has passed through Gateway. The presentation should enable apprentices to present evidence against all the grading descriptors in this assessment method. The Presentation with questioning is: 

• 50 minutes: 20 minutes (approximately) for the presentation and 30 minutes (approximately) for the questioning
• Produced during a 4 week window
• Delivered over a video call on the day of assessment'

The professional discussion is a structured conversation led by the assessor and underpinned by the apprentice's portfolio of evidence. The Professional discussion will enable apprentices to provide evidence against all the grading descriptors in this assessment method. The Professional Discussion is:

• 75 Minutes
• A structured conversation that follows a consistent format
• Delivered over a video call on the day of assessment

The integrated unit is assessed as part of the qualification during the EPA period. It is assessed by the study centre. It will follow the assessment structure and rules of the CIPD Level 5 Diploma in People Management.  Unit achievement must not be claimed by the study centre until after the apprentice has attempted the other two assessment methods.

The CIPD have created resources which include how to guides, templates and policies. These resources are designed to support apprentices, employers and training providers when preparing for EPA.

• End Point Assessment and Guidance Resources 

Once the EPA is finished, the assessor will review the evidence provided and make a judgement against each grading descriptor. The outcome of the EPA will be based on the results in the Presentation with Questions, Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence and 5CO03 Integrated Unit. The results will be uploaded: 

• On the EPA platform, SmartEPA
• with qualitative feedback
• two to three weeks after the Professional Discussion

The CIPD will apply for the Apprenticeship Certificate from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) on behalf of all apprentices who successfully complete EPA.
