In view of the Autumn 2024 Budget and Spending Review, our submission to HM Treasury emphasises the need for a broader UK economic strategy beyond becoming a “science and technology superpower”.

We make recommendations that include balancing worker protection and employer flexibility in the new, enhanced employment regulations; doubling Acas' budget to help support SMEs and other employers comply with employment law; and funding collaboration between businesses, unions, and employers – encouraging innovation and productivity.

In addition, we call for the creation of an Apprenticeship Guarantee for 16–24-year-olds as well as financial incentives for youth apprenticeships. Lastly, we believe there should be wider adoption of technology and best practice among UK SMEs.
