The CIPD is again inviting members to share feedback to inform response to EHRC consultation on code of practice updates
UPDATE: The CIPD invited members to share their views on proposed updates to equality guidance following the Supreme Court ruling in April 2025. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) ran a consultation on changes to its code of practice for services, public functions and associations, with responses until 30 June 2025. We shared feedback from members with the EHRC and we will update members when the EHRC publishes its response to the consultation.
The CIPD is inviting members to share their views on proposed updates to equality guidance following a recent Supreme Court ruling. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has launched a consultation on changes to its code of practice for services, public functions and associations, with responses due by 30 June.
The consultation follows the Supreme Court ruling in April that the protected characteristic of “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex.
We've already been gathering feedback from CIPD members about their practical and legal concerns, which we've shared with the EHRC to help inform these updates.
The EHRC says its role is ‘to ensure everybody’s rights are protected in line with the law, so that no one experiences discrimination or harassment as a result of their protected characteristic when using services’. It commits to 'developing guidance that provides legal clarity and practical support for organisations following the Supreme Court judgment’.
