Meet the board members championing better work and working lives for the CIPD in Ireland
Having delivered for our members and our wider community since 1943, the CIPD is now registered as a charity in Ireland. Its subsidiary, CIPD Ireland, has its own board of directors and has applied for charity status in Ireland.
Our board in Ireland works directly with the CIPD’s leadership and expert teams to uphold membership and qualification standards, and to provide training, resources and support.
Chair
Currently Managing Director (Joint) of Voltedge Management, a leading Irish HR and Management Consultancy, Joyce has extensive experience in Human Resources management, strategy and organisational development. She is Honorary Vice-Chair of the National Committee of CIPD Ireland after completing two years as Chair, as well as being a non-executive Director of CIPD Ireland Ltd.
Joyce set up Voltedge following many years in senior HR positions in multinational corporates and European start-ups. She is passionate about the alignment of HR with business strategy, addressing complex business issues, and providing HR advice to leaders.
Angela joined the CIPD in September 2019. As part of her role, she is also Company Secretary for the CIPD and our subsidiaries. This includes supporting our Board to ensure proper oversight of the organisation’s activities and compliance with our legal and regulatory obligations. In addition to corporate governance, her teams are responsible for legal and contracting, risk management, procurement and the Code of Professional Conduct and work in support of ethics for our members.
Angela is legally qualified and a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute. She has over 25 years’ company secretarial/senior governance experience across several sectors and organisations, including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Financial Conduct Authority. Angela also holds several voluntary governance roles.
Paul Candon is the Chief Executive Officer for United Hardware Limited. United Hardware is a leading buying and marketing group for builders’ merchants, DIY and home & garden retail stores and services over 150 stores throughout Ireland.
Paul’s Vision for United Hardware is to become Irelands preferred buying group by delivering value, profit and services to all the members helping them achieve results that would not be possible operating independently.
Prior to United Hardware Paul was Managing Director with Bunzl Ireland and prior to that Paul was Chief Executive of a pharmacy chain. Paul has a long number of years working in Retail and was over 17 years in fuels and forecourt retailing.
Paul holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Human Resources and also he is a Chartered Director and a Director in The Hardware Association of Ireland and National Council member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel (CIPD).
Yvonne Cooke, Executive Director of Human Resources and People Development in An Garda Síochána. She is also a psychologist with a passion for individual, organisational and societal reform and has worked internationally across the public, private and not for profit sector.
Yvonne is the Chair of the Ireland division of the Eisenhower Fellowships, a CIPD Graduate Member, Chartered Occupational Psychologist, Master Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming and is a Queens University Belfast graduate, having attained an MSc in Occupational Psychology and BSc in Psychology.
