CIPD consultation response: Industrial strategy
Our response to the Department for Business and Trade’s consultation on the UK’s modern industrial strategy
Our response to the Department for Business and Trade’s consultation on the UK’s modern industrial strategy
We responded to the government’s consultation on industrial strategy, welcoming the reintroduction of a strategy and an Industrial Strategy Council. We believe both are vital to boost growth and productivity.
We emphasise the need to not only focus efforts on tackling barriers to growth in the highest potential growth-driving sectors, but the everyday economy too, in order to improve growth and living standards UK-wide.
We also highlight research that shows the link between management capability and productivity, showing that a quarter to a third of productivity gaps could be attributed to management. We also reference evidence that suggests a strong link between HR and people management practices on workforce skills development and use and responsible adoption of new technology such as AI.
