The consultation seeks to understand existing monitoring practices and the three proposed government interventions that could help ensure that workplace monitoring technologies are used responsibly. The CIPD supports the government’s proposal to introduce a statutory code of practice with guidance on workplace monitoring technologies.

  • A statutory code of practice with guidance on workplace technologies would help clarify expectations under existing law and support responsible technology adoption.
  • While meaningful consultation is a good idea in principle, it is difficult to define this in law unless the scope is narrow.
  • Non-statutory guidance can’t enforce responsible adoption of workplace monitoring technologies.
