About the speaker
Pete Colby
Pete is the founder of Pragmatism (UK) Ltd who specialise in helping organisations to resolve workplace disputes through mediation. They also help to prevent disputes in the first place by developing managers to have ‘difficult’ conversations and by training internal mediators.
Alongside being a Fellow of CIPD, Pete is a Civil Mediation Council (CMC) mediator and also an assessor of newly qualified mediators.
In his 28 years as a workplace mediator, Pete has helped to resolve numerous disputes, ranging from spats between two people in an office through to full-scale industrial action and strikes with Trade Unions. He describes mediation skills as “not rocket science, but an all too rare life skill”.
Pete has held a number of executive level HR positions in organisations ranging from small businesses through to blue chip companies such as Rolls-Royce and British Steel. He also spent a number of years as a Factory Manager where he was directly responsible for around 850 employees.
The session Pete will run is aimed at giving a few key tips to help avoid formal grievances in the workplace, with interactivity and hopefully lots of questions!
