The UK Government’s Employment Rights Bill is set to reshape the world of work – and the CIPD’s Annual Conference and Exhibition is the perfect chance to explore what that means for you, your organisation and your role as a trusted people professional.

As the UK redefines its approach to employment rights, the insights and expertise of people professionals have never been more critical. We’re working to ensure your voice shapes the reforms and helps make sure the Employment Rights Bill works in practice.

By attending the conference, you can get ahead of the game, connect with fellow professionals, engage directly with our public policy team and learn more about what the bill means for you and your organisation.

Shaping the future of employment law

Our public policy team has been heavily involved in consulting on the Employment Rights Bill over the past year. We continue to represent the voice of the profession in discussions with policymakers on how these reforms will impact the workplace.

While we expect the Employment Rights Bill to become law later this year, there are still several areas left to consult on that will be determined in secondary legislation once the bill has passed through parliament. In particular, the practicalities of the proposed new probation period.

The bill will only work if it works in practice, and that’s why the voice of the people profession is so important.

Join us at our Annual Conference and Exhibition this November to get involved in exclusive roundtable discussions to:

  • Share your insights, views and experiences directly with our policy experts.
  • Explore critical issues affecting people professionals, including trade union reforms, zero hours contracts and the unfair dismissal process.
  • Contribute to our consultation responses, helping to ensure our collective voice reaches the highest levels of policymaking.

The roundtables will take place in our free interactive Employment Rights Bill feature on the exhibition floor.

Conference pass holders can also hear from expert speakers on a range of policy topics across the two days. From trade union relations to new probation rules, these sessions will give you the tools to lead change with confidence.

Ensuring legislation reflects modern workplace realities

Of course, our support doesn’t stop when the conference doors close. We’re continuing to actively engage with policymakers to help shape the Employment Rights Bill, ensuring the voice of the profession is heard. From discussions with the new Employment Rights Minister Kate Dearden MP, to collaboration with trade unions, business organisations and other partners, we’re adding your insight directly into policy discussions.

At the recent party conferences, we championed issues that matter to the profession. This includes everything from flexible skills funding and an Apprenticeship Guarantee, to fair approaches to union access and AI adoption. This work helps ensure legislation reflects the realities of the modern workplace and supports good work and improved productivity.

Championing professional standards in a changing employment landscape

To help you navigate the Employment Rights Bill with confidence, our ERB tracker is here to keep you up to date on what’s coming. And, as the law changes, our knowledge hub is your go-to place for guidance, legal updates and practical tools that will keep your people practices fully up to date.

By supporting you to uphold professional standards, comply with new laws and focus on evidence-based practice, we’re ensuring policymakers and employers recognise the vital role people professionals play in creating workplaces that are fair, inclusive, productive and high-performing.
