Welcome to the Learning and Development (L&D) Network

If you're a CIPD member developing people, building capability and shaping the future of learning within organisations we'd love you to join us.

This is your trusted space – somewhere you can share insights openly, reflect on the challenges that keep you up at night, and strengthen your leadership resilience alongside people who truly get it.

Who's it for?

We welcome all L&D professionals, whether you're just starting out in learning and development or bringing years of strategic expertise to the profession.

What can you expect?

You'll become part of a warm and active online community of L&D professionals on Mighty, where conversations flow and connections deepen. Throughout the year, you'll also have access to a programme of quarterly national online events, designed to inspire, inform and bring you together with fellow L&D people professionals.

Why join?

Connect with peers who face similar challenges, gain fresh perspectives that spark new ideas and have your voice heard. Your insights will also help inform CIPD's research and content work, giving you a real opportunity to shape the future of the people profession.

What's next for this network?

We’ve got a programme of upcoming events designed to support and connect L&D people professionals across the UK.

Below you’ll find all upcoming quarterly national events. Topics may be decided nearer the time of each event to reflect the changing world of work and the people challenges that it brings. This enables the sessions to be current, focussing on the challenges that are happening for you right now.

Please put the dates in your diary, sign up to become a L&D network member, and look out for communications from us with more information on each event as it is released.

Upcoming events:

Skills-first L&D: thinking strategically,
acting tactically.

L&D Network Event

Date: 2 November 2026

Time: 12:00 - 13:00

Location: Online

Skills-first organisations need more than new language about skills and capability. They need L&D practitioners who can connect organisational priorities, required performance and practical capability support.

This online session will explore what skills-first thinking means for L&D in practice. It will start from the idea that L&D often works between operational demand and transactional delivery. The opportunity is to move into a more useful tactical role: understanding the strategic context, brokering the right capability response, and deciding when learning is, or is not, the right intervention.
