Insights on working with trade unions and current and future legal duties

This event will provide attendees with insight into working with Trade Unions, including the legislative requirements both now and anticipated through the Employment Rights Bill.

The first part of the session will be a presentation from Sara Barrett, Partner at Mills & Reeve, providing the legal perspective on working with Trade Unions.


The second part of the session will be an interactive panel session to hear about advice and experience of working effectively with Trade Unions. As well as Sarah, the panel will include Nick Speight from the Co-operative Group, Jules Tait from the NHS and Gareth Howard from Acas.


Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions.


Speakers bio:

Jules Tait- Juliette (Jules) is a senior People Professional in the NHS. Juliette has worked in NHS Trusts across Greater Manchester undertaking a variety of roles in Human Resources (HR) and Organisational Development (OD). She has had an extensive and varied career in the people profession, having gained experience in leading teams that support apprenticeship delivery, workforce development and other specialist areas. Above all, Juliette is passionate about people and works hard to raise the voice of staff to help create the best working environment possible, ensuring people feel well equipped to deliver safe and compassionate care to patients.


Gareth Howard is a Collective Conciliator at Acas. He is an experienced Acas conciliator, specialised in resolving workplace disputes & facilitating constructive conversations, supporting organisations and employees to achieve positive outcomes through skilled mediation.


Sara Barrett is a partner in the employment team at Mills & Reeve and provides commercial and pragmatic employment law advice and solutions to: commercial businesses of varying sizes, from start ups to multinational PLC's; public sector clients ( largely HE and FE education clients) and not for profit organisations including charities; senior executives on appointment and exit.


Nick Speight People Director Co-operative Group

Nick is People Director, Culture and Colleague Experience at the Cooperative Group, a purpose-led and member-owned organisation and one of the world’s largest consumer cooperatives. Nick has specialised in recent years in organisational change, colleague experience, HR transformation, service delivery and automation. He previously worked in senior HR and operational leadership roles in several of the UK’s largest organisations and spent several years working overseas, in Bahrain, Austria and Germany.
