UK employment law is undergoing one of its most significant periods of change in a generation.
Join employment law specialists from Mills & Reeve’s Birmingham office for a practical online update exploring the important changes introduced during 2026 and the major reforms coming in 2027.
Designed for HR and People professionals, the session will help you understand what the latest changes mean in practice, what is coming next and the steps organisations should be considering now to prepare.
UK employment law is changing at pace, with organisations navigating a significant programme of reforms that will continue throughout 2026 and into 2027.
For HR and People professionals, keeping up with the legislation is only part of the challenge. We also need to understand what these changes mean in practice – for our policies and processes, our managers and, importantly, our employees.
Join Richard Santy and Jameel Mann from the Mills & Reeve employment team Birmingham office, for this informative and practical online session looking at where employment law stands now and what lies ahead.
The session will reflect on the key changes taking effect during 2026, including the important reforms introduced in October, before looking ahead to the significant developments coming in 2027.
Topics are expected to include:
• Changes to Employment Tribunal claim time limits
• Strengthened requirements around preventing workplace sexual harassment
• Changes to trade union rights and employer obligations
• The reduction in the qualifying period for unfair dismissal from two years to six months
• Removal of the compensatory award cap for unfair dismissal
• New restrictions around dismissal and re-engagement (“fire and rehire”)
• Forthcoming changes affecting zero and low-hours working
• Changes to flexible working and family-related employment rights
• Other important employment law developments on the horizon for 2027
Throughout the session, the focus will be on what the changes mean in practice and the actions HR teams and organisations should be considering to prepare.
There will also be an opportunity to put your questions to the Mills & Reeve team and explore some of the practical challenges these reforms are likely to create for employers.
Whether you work in-house, independently or are simply looking to keep your employment law knowledge current, this session will provide a timely opportunity to understand the changing employment law landscape and prepare for what comes next.
