Bridging the generational divide: A blueprint for Leaders and HR to empower GenZ in a multi-generational workforce
Today’s organisations must navigate five generations in the workforce, each with distinct motivations and expectations. Generation Z (born 1995–2010) arrives as true digital natives who demand meaningful, purpose-driven work yet report the lowest engagement of any cohort - over half say they’re not engaged at work. They crave frequent, real-time feedback, flexibility in how and where they work, and clear pathways for growth, but often clash with legacy hierarchies and infrequent performance reviews. To win with GenZ while leveraging institutional knowledge, leaders and HR must deploy cross-generational and reverse-mentoring programs, agile feedback loops, purpose-embedded culture design, and hyper-personalised development journeys.
This session equips leaders and HR with a no-nonsense, research-backed playbook to transform multi-generational challenges into competitive advantage, ensuring GenZ thrives alongside every other generation.
Learning Objectives:
Understand GenZ’s Value System: They prioritise impact, transparency, and wellbeing over traditional perks.
Implement Key Initiatives that suit All Generations: Including reverse mentoring, continuous coaching and micro-learning.
Build in Flexibility & Autonomy: Hybrid work and project-centric models increase cross-generational collaboration and retention.
Speakers bio:
Originally from New Zealand, Guy Ellis moved to the UK at 21, a shift that gave me not only a new home, but also a powerful lens through which to understand leadership, culture, and human connection. Over the past 30 years, I’ve experienced leadership from every angle – from the front lines of HR to the complexity of major organisational change.
I’ve served as an HR Director, Project Manager, and leadership advisor across industries, organisations, and continents, from globally recognised brands to smaller purpose-led companies. Whether navigating restructures or shaping inclusive workplace cultures, I’ve always been drawn to one central question: what does courageous leadership really look like in practice?
My work today focuses on the intersection of age and gender equity, and leadership, areas too often overlooked, especially by those in power. I work with leadership and HR teams and executives to bring about practical change to the workplace.
