About this event

We will be sharing the latest research in AI assisting people professionals

In January 2024, Dr Vincent Bryce and Dr Mayen Cunden updated Branch members on their current research findings relating to using AI to improve strategic responses to employee turnover and absence. For the May 2025 update, they will focus their presentations and discussion on the practicalities of AI adoption in people management, using examples, scenarios and models.

They plan to prompt people managers to design and use responsible people analytics. The theme will be the Future of Work. They will be sharing good ideas for positive improvements in delivering meaningful employment analysis in organisations. This will be an insightful glimpse into the future of AI-modulated work which facilitates individual and organisational practical, actionable planning for the future of work.

People Management daily update in February 2025 noted that HR people before UK legisation is in force, should be aware of the EU AI Act to check for potential issues arising from using AI in HR processes.

HR people should understand the EU risk tiers with increasing obligations to protect individuals with good data governance:

  1. conduct ongoing audits as the AI models change since new input data can create new forms of bias, misinformation and security risks;
  2. train HR teams on AI governance and ethics to become informed custodians;
  3. build trust through transparency using clear disclosures to employees;
  4. monitor the regulatory environment.

HR people should:

  1. maintain detailed records of AI system operations and compliance measures;
  2. engage with regulators and industry bodies to be informed;
  3. align AI initiatives with broader organisational goals and ethics to deliver measurable value.

This will be an interactive session, discussing practical examples as well as sharing good ideas for positive improvements for people professionals at work.

No recording will be made.

About the speaker

Dr Mayen Cunden

Dr Mayen Cunden's postdoctoral research originated in the study of social informatics. It was based on interactionist and emotionalist conceptual modelling to explain how the nature of interactions and the exchange and combination processes (embodied in social capital and social exchange theories) influences and affects interdisciplinary (research) collaboration.

This led to his current advocacy and practice of Design Thinking as a research methodology to advance collaborative and co-operative stakeholder engagement. His current work as an independent researcher is on responsible research and innovation (RRI) and how the ethics of future emerging technology revolve around technology and innovation for social good.

For example:

A responsible digital future, he believes, must include civil society involvement beyond and in addition to, voices from academia, government and industry for it allows us to reflexively understand and define what is of constitutive value to us as researchers: what we should care about, how we relate to one another and the world around us, in relation to developing and maintaining that ethical, responsible digital future. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Responsible Technology (formerly known as The ORBIT Journal).
