About the speaker

Duncan is an independent reward researcher, adviser and writer. He has spent most of his career with leading HR consultancies and employment research houses including Willis Towers Watson and Aon Hewitt. He was also Deputy CEO and Head of Research and Policy at the CIPD.

Duncan has been involved with many significant pay restructurings over the past 30 years including for BT and Novartis in the private sector, Agenda for Change in the NHS and JEGs in the Civil Service, and the United Nations and Council of Europe. He has advised government on pay setting methods for key groups including the judiciary, Armed Forces and doctors and dentists.

He is a well-known author and speaker on rewards, with publications including the best-selling Handbook of Reward Management Practice written with Michael Armstrong.

Duncan is currently a Principal Associate at IES, Visting Professor at the University of Greenwich and lectures on CIPD HR MSc programmes at a range of universities. He sits on the HR Management Board at the London School of Economics and advises several remuneration committees. His PhD was in reward strategy. Duncan is a Companion of the CIPD.
