About this event

Learn how the Disability Confident and Access to Work schemes operates.

This is a joint event hosted by the CIPD Branches in North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire & District.

It will be hosted by Mark Johnston, Chair of the CIPD Branch in North Yorkshire with speaker Stewart Smith from Department of Work and Pensions who will focus on the Disability Confident Scheme and Access to Work schemes.

Stewart Smith

My name’s Stu and I’m the Disability Employment Adviser covering Scarborough and Whitby Jobcentres. My role is to provide a lead for our Work Coaches when working with customers who have health issues, at every stage of their journey towards the labour market, from addressing wellbeing and social issues to formal work search. In addition to providing coaching and advice for my colleagues, I also work directly with my own caseload of customers. In addition, I network with local support organisations and some employers to foster productive working partnerships within our the local community and labour market. In addition, I take the lead on a number of complex need areas and serve as a Mental Health First Aider.
