About the speaker
Nic Elliott, HR director and head of employment, Actons Solicitors
Nic Elliott wears two hats at Actons Solicitors: he’s both the HR director and head of the employment law team. Nic is the go-to person when businesses are dealing with tricky people issues, or when senior execs are joining or leaving a company. He is known for giving straight-talking, practical advice that’s rooted in both legal know-how and a deep understanding of how people tick.
Nic has been recognised for years by The Legal 500 as a Next Generation Partner, and he’s also one of the UK’s top 20 Legal LinkedInfluencers. He’s also one of HR Magazine’s Most Influential Practitioners 2025. On LinkedIn, he shares insights, sparks conversations and challenges the status quo around work, employment law and the future of HR.
As host of The HRD Talks podcast, Nic talks to people directors of companies including Boots, Severn Trent and Equiniti. The show offers HR leaders a platform to share their stories and advice.
Thanks to his background in psychology, Nic brings a fresh perspective to people issues, thinking about the human impact as well as the legal side. He’s worked with businesses ranging from fast-growing SMEs to big corporates in retail, hospitality and tech. His client list includes Waterstones, Rab, the Air Ambulance Service, Staffline PLC and Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Nic spent time on secondment in the HR team of a global retail bank. He joined Actons in 2012 after eight years at Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLG), and he has specialised in employment law since 2006.
