We will be reviewing and discussing a recent CIPD Journal on Organisational Design and Development
During this Milton Keynes Group event we will be reviewing and discussing a recent CIPD Journal on Organisational Design and Development. We will be looking at how organisations are tackling the transformation of their people team structure, the main focus areas and discussing how to optimise the HR operating model.
The discussion will cover the three main reasons for redesigning HR structures:
1. In response to an internal or external factor.
2. To better align with the organisation’s strategy and purpose.
3. To increase efficiency.
We will also discuss the pros and cons for centralised, decentralised and hybrid HR function, leveraging digital technology to drive efficiency and reallocating responsibilities.
We would ask HR professionals attending this event to read the article beforehand and give consideration to the HR structure in their business, or businesses that they work with, along with what the drivers may be for any redesign to develop the people function.

Lindsey Charlesworth, Chartered FCIPD
Lindsey Charlesworth is the proud founder of Clarity People Ltd, where her passion for driving organisational success and fostering exceptional workplace cultures comes to life. With a rich background as an accomplished HR Director, Operations Director, and Customer Success Director, Lindsey has dedicated her career to empowering local Milton Keynes based businesses.
Lindsey has spent nearly all of her life living and working in Milton Keynes bringing her wealth of HR experience to brands such as Suzuki GB, Ipsos Retail Performance, Springboard, Shanks Waste Management, and many more.
Lindsey’s thirst for knowledge led to dedicating herself to earning a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management in 2018, graduating with distinction. Needless to say, her love of learning continues so you can rest assured she is up to date with all matters concerning people!
Along with running her own business, Lindsey is also currently serving as the Vice Chair of the Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes Branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Her commitment to excellence and self-improvement also includes her role as a qualified ILM Level 7 Executive Coach and an accredited Insights Discovery Partner, where she makes use of her skills and the Insights Discovery metaphor of colour to guide individuals and teams towards their fullest potential.
Throughout Lindsey’s career, she’s always had a deep fascination with the interplay between people, their behaviour, their work, and achieving personal success. Lindsey truly believes that business success is achieved through people feeling connected to their purpose and being valued.
Colonel Terry Robson MBE MA MBA, Chartered FCIPD
Terry Robson joined the Army in 1989, initially as an Infantry platoon commander, but switching to its HR Arm in 1995. His 35-year career has been spent mostly in HR, specifically Remuneration Policy, with the balance being in command, planning and operations roles, including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was part of the team which designed the new Armed Forces Pension Scheme, was Head of Military Personnel Administration for the Army and military advisor to the Head of Defence People Transformation. During the COVID Pandemic he led the COVID Team within the Ministry of Defence and, during this time, became a Chartered Fellow through the Experience Assessment route.
He has also completed a MA in Defence Studies and a MBA, both through Cranfield and was appointed MBE in 2019. Since July 2023 Terry has been the Army’s Job Evaluation Judge. Terry lives in Milton Keynes, enjoys most running sports, loves watching rugby and is learning to play blues guitar.
