The new duty to prevent sexual harassment at work

About this event

The new duty to prevent sexual harassment at work

The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act 2023 came into force on 26 October 2024. Employers now have a new legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment of employees in the course of their employment. Employers are also required to proactively prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

In this lecture, Jahad Rahman, Partner of Rahman Lowe Solicitors will provide an overview of the new legal position, the obligations on employers and how the new duty compares with the existing statutory defence that’s available for employers under the Equality Act 2010. He will also provide his top tips to help employers ensure that they take practical and necessary steps to comply with their legal duty.

The session will cover the following:

  • The law relating to the new duty on employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment;
  • Whether the new duty provides broader protection than earlier provisions;
  • Comparison of the new duty with the existing statutory defence;
  • Top tips on what employers can do to ensure compliance.
