At this webinar, Samantha Cotter and Laura Johnston will discuss their route into the HR profession.

This webinar is designed to give attendees insight into the many and varied routes into HR and the wide variety of work an HR professional might get involved in. The session will take the form of an introduction to each of our speakers, wherein they will provide a summary of their route into HR.


There will be the opportunity to ask questions, both specific to Samantha and Laura’s experience and more generally about how to get into, or progress a career in HR.


Guest speakers' profiles:


Samantha Cotter is a HR Projects Manager for a nationwide Professional Services Firm. Samatha is a qualified solicitor specialising in employment law. After completing her MSc in Human Resources Management, Samantha moved into an in-house role providing HR and employment law advice to the business and has recently taken responsibility for leading the L&D function. In addition to the advice she provides, Samantha has been involved in a variety of strategic projects including; acquisitions, graduate recruitment and training, apprenticeships, benefits strategy, and wellbeing.


Laura Johnston is a Global People Manager for an Energy consultancy business. With over 12 years HR experience she has had various roles throughout her career. Starting her HR life as a HR Advisor, then working within a business partnering role and recently to a Global People Manager position. Her general and specialist knowledge within human resources, and a People Manager position, has provided her with a greater understanding of the business. She has been involved in strategic HR projects which include but not limited to, recruitment strategies, salary review processes, complex employee relation cases. She is currently responsible, for employees within the Global Finance function (520 employees), helping the business shape the People agenda to meet their needs and supporting the wider business.
