We have an evening packed with guest speakers, bubbles and food from George’s Garden.
The evening will be a retrospective look back over the year, discussing key employment changes and cases. Practical advice on data protection breaches and investigations as well as wellbeing and training for employees on mental health.
Our Speakers:
Daniel Read, Partner from Walkers Jersey, Danielle Brouard, Senior Counsel from Walkers Guernsey, Paul Vane, the Information Commissioner and Micheal Kirkwood, CEO of Lifeline.
We also have Sian Langley and Gemma Palmer, Senior Counsels from Walkers Regulatory Practice to take any questions on data protection and regulatory matters.
Daniel Read – Guest Speaker
Daniel Read is a Partner and leads our Employment practice group in Jersey and has over 11 years' experience in Jersey advising financial services organisations and senior executives on all aspects of the employment relationship. This includes exits, disciplinary issues and investigations, and regulatory matters.
Daniel is a Jersey Advocate with experience in Royal Court and Employment and Discrimination Tribunal cases. He gives strategic advice on all aspects of the employment relationship including managing employee relations, managing sickness absences, internal investigations, disciplinary and grievance procedures, whistleblowing and discrimination claims, and restructuring and redundancy.
He also advises on business licensing and immigration matters, regulatory and data protection issues involving employees and he regularly supports clients with drafting and negotiating employment documentation including contracts and handbooks.
Daniel regularly works with our Investment Funds and Corporate team with the employment law aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions.
Daniel also has in-house experience, having undertaken a six-month client secondment with a major bank, advising on employee relations issues.
Danielle Brouard – Guest Speaker
Danielle Brouard is a Senior Counsel in Walkers’ Guernsey Employment Practice Group. She advises on all aspects of employment law, focusing in particular on discrimination and employment-related disputes.
Danielle spent 14 years practising in the London office of a major international law firm, working across the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues.
Her core practice involves drafting and negotiating employment documentation, assisting with HR processes and employee relations matters, advising on the enforceability of restrictive covenants, representing clients in employment tribunal litigation and advising on employment aspects of transactions.
Danielle also has in-house experience, having undertaken a six-month client secondment with British Airways, advising on employee relations and trade union issues.
Paul Vane – Guest Speaker
Paul leads JOIC’s external relations, dealing with representatives from businesses, governments and NGOs, both locally and internationally.
He regularly attends the annual meetings of groups of regulators and international conferences for data protection commissioners to keep up with industry developments and thought leadership, as well as report back on what is happening in Jersey. He liaises with international groups as well as local businesses, giving presentations, sitting on panels and speaking at conferences.
Paul has extensive experience in the regulatory and law enforcement environment and held the position of Deputy Commissioner between 2004 - 2021.
Previously, Paul worked at the Jersey Financial Services Commission. This gave him experience in a similar regulatory environment where, among other things, he was responsible for ensuring that financial services businesses were compliant with Jersey’s financial services law.
Michael Kirkwood – Guest Speaker
Michael Kirkwood is wholly dedicated to improving the lives of others. Despite facing health challenges that altered the course of his career in the pre-hospital sector, Michael’s resilience and determination led him to establish Lifeline Training in 2020, a venture that has since blossomed into Lifeline Group under his leadership as Group CEO.
In 2019, Michael volunteered his medical expertise in Faridabad, India for three months, leaving a lasting impact on the community and demonstrating his commitment to serving those in need.
Michael’s profound desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others is evident in every aspect of his work, as he tirelessly strives to embody the values of kindness and service in all that he does. His genuine care for those around him and his relentless pursuit of positive change serve as an inspiration to those around him. In his spare time, Michael finds joy in the company of his loved ones and his loyal canine companion.
In his moments of leisure, he indulges in the thrill of playing football and golf, immersing himself in the passion and camaraderie that these sports offer.

Sian Langley
Sian Langley is a senior counsel in Walkers' Regulatory practice in Jersey, specialising in financial services regulation matters.
Sian has experience of working within a national regulator as a senior lawyer, as a knowledge lawyer focused on onshore financial services regulation, and as a Barrister in private practice, as well as working offshore.
She advises on matters relating to AML/CFT obligations, fintech and payments, consumer credit regulation, prudential regulation, and general corporate compliance and governance.
She also advises businesses in Jersey and onshore about their obligations under Jersey's regulatory regime and assists clients with regulatory investigations.
Sian has many years of experience in advising on EU law relating to financial products and services.
Gemma Palmer
Gemma Palmer is a senior counsel in Walkers' Regulatory practice in Jersey, specialising in financial services regulation matters.
Gemma's experience spans acting on a number of reorganisation, rationalisation and/or consolidation mandates in relation to deposit-taking businesses, insurance businesses and trust company businesses, right through to advising on day-to-day compliance matters for a range of regulated businesses. Gemma has worked closely with a number of retail banks on Island in advising upon the launch of new business and service lines within the Jersey legal and regulatory framework.
She also advises businesses in Jersey and onshore about their obligations under Jersey's regulatory regime and has previously assisted clients with navigating regulatory examinations.
Gemma also has many years of experience in advising on restructuring and insolvency matters at a leading onshore firm where she delivered non-contentious insolvency and business restructuring advice to creditor cohorts, insolvency practitioners, institutional lenders and major corporates.
