Conscious and Sustainable Practice for the Future of Work Series

This event will run as a joint event with the Faculty of Business and Law | University of Roehampton, London.

These talk series will enable people practitioners to apply the CIPD Professional Values of being “principles led, evidence based and outcomes driven” in championing Conscious and Sustainable Practice for the Future of Work.


This event will examine the intersection between high-performance work practices and employee burnout. Attendees will learn how to recognise burnout, understand its effects on both individuals and organisations, and explore the role HR professionals and leaders play in fostering workplace well-being. The session will focus on individual career experiences, highlighting how creating an environment that supports personal growth, development, and well-being can contribute to the long-term sustainability of an organisation.


The speakers will discuss and share information on:


Identifying and Understanding the effects of Burnout

  • How to recognise the signs of burnout at individual and team levels
  • Tools and assessments for measurement
  • The effects of burnout on employee performance, engagement, and turnover
  • Long-term organisational impacts: culture, productivity, and financial costs


The Role of HR and Leadership, Best Practice and Resources in Managing Wellbeing

  • What is HR’s responsibility in fostering a culture of wellbeing?
  • Leadership’s role in creating supportive work environments.
  • Best practices and practical interventions.


Creating Growth-Oriented Organisational Environments

  • Fostering positive personal development and career experiences for individuals
  • Aligning individual growth with organisational sustainability

About the speakers

Rosemary McLean is a registered Career Practitioner and Chartered Occupational Psychologist and has a 30 year membership of the CIPD. In her role at The Career Innovation Company, she enables organisations to develop and shape career development strategy to support business goals and align individual aspirations and passions with internal opportunities. The work is evidence based applying systemic approaches to career development in organisations including the development of career frameworks.

She also designs and delivers career development workshops and has developed a next generation on-line career development course ‘Be Bold in your Career’ to scale up meaningful careers support to people in the workplace. Rosemary has worked as a careers coach in both the career transition and careers guidance fields and is a CDI Fellow and mentor as well as a NICEC Fellow.

Dr Michelle Hunter-Hill is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Scientist, Senior Lecturer, and Coach. She is registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC), British Psychological Society (BPS), and the Science Council. As an advocate of psychological safety and wellbeing in the workplace, Dr Michelle specialises in designing and delivering evidence-informed solutions to assess (personality, ability, and occupational interests), develop, and protect people at work.

Trained in systems-psychodynamics, Dr Michelle's consulting approach goes ‘beneath-the-surface’, unveiling hidden behavioural roots associated with burnout, stress, and bullying, including the role of individual differences (e.g., personality), 'job-fit', and organisational behaviour. Dr Michelle has an international presence and is recognised for her work as an executive coach, management/leadership trainer, clinical supervisor, researcher, and psychometrician. She runs the Issues@Work Clinic, and a practitioner-based forum called The Psychometrics Café.

Dr Michelle has published in scientific journals, given presentations internationally, and is Programme Director of Occupational and Business Psychology at University of Roehampton, where she designs psychology and coaching learning programmes, and is engaged in KTP partnership projects.

Zita Lourdes Louis BA Hons., MSc., MCIPD., FHEA. is the Programme Leader for the MSc in Global Human Resource Management (GHRM) at the University of Roehampton and as Senior Lecturer, teaches on topics such as Leadership and Change Management; Cross Cultural Management and Strategic Human Resource Management (HRM).

Zita has previously led the HRM function for international companies operating in the UK. She has worked across sectors in shipping, renewable energy, consultancy and the Higher Education sector (HEI) developing and proposing organisational strategies and practices in enhancing high performance and people engagement in the workplace.

Zita is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, Vice Chair and Student Engagement Lead (SEL) for the CIPD South West London Branch. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

She developed a series of expert speaker events titled "Conscious and Sustainable Practice for the Future of Work" focusing on ethical and contemporary leadership and people practice. These events run in collaboration with the CIPD and the University of Roehampton Business and Law School's Centre for Sustainability and Responsible Management.
