The Irish Government has called for public consultation on the implementation of the EU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act 2024. The CIPD in Ireland held a focus group on 1 July 2024 with practitioners to contribute a perspective on the people and business implications of the Act. It is important that the people profession ensure the human-centric adoption of AI remains core as it will impact in four areas:

  • skills and capabilities
  • work and job design
  • people management, and
  • improving wellbeing.

The CIPD has responded on behalf of its members on 16 July and we have offered further input with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

“We recognise that there is a significant opportunity for AI and the digital economy to continue to contribute to economic growth and societal improvement in Ireland.  However, we have observed that there is very limited debate about how we adopt a human-centric approach to AI use in the workplace and impact on employees. This is where we have put the CIPD focus.”

Mary Connaughton, CIPD Director, Ireland
