Essential points

Regulations were introduced by the Irish Government to transpose Directive (EU) 2019/1152 on Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions in the European Union. Four pieces of Irish legislations have been amended as part of the regulations; they are:

  1. Terms of Employment (Information) Act 1994
  2. Organisation of Working Time Act 1997
  3. Protection of Employees (Fixed-Term Work) Act 2003
  4. Workplace Relations Act 2015

The regulations apply to all employees in Ireland, however there are some exceptions such as:

  • employees who have less than four consecutive weeks' service
  • working hours that amount to an average of three hours or less per week.
