When are NDAs legal and appropriate?

The misuse of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) or confidentiality clauses has come under scrutiny in recent years, following revelations about their use to silence victims of sexual harassment.  NDAs can be useful for both employers and employees, and people professionals play a key role in ensuring that they are used legally and appropriately.  Our new online guide for CIPD members based in the UK gives clear and practical advice on when NDAs can and cannot be used, as well as the role of the HR profession in balancing the interests of employees and the organisation.  

Labour Market Outlook highlights need for more inclusive recruitment and selection  

Our latest quarterly survey of more than 2,000 employers in the UK found that employers are struggling with hard to fill vacancies, particularly in the public sector. Our media outreach surrounding this highly regarded barometer of employment trends called on employers to broaden their talent pool by adopting more inclusive approaches to recruitment and selection, and to look at opportunities to develop and upskill their existing workforces.

Taking a collaborative approach to making work pay 

The CIPD was among the professional and business bodies that met with government ministers in the UK this month, to kickstart engagement on the changes to employment law under the ‘Plan to Make Work Pay’.  

We had previously urged the Government to adopt a consultative and collaborative approach with businesses when reforming employment rights, so were pleased to have been at the table for this important discussion.  We reiterated our call for meaningful consultation on the reforms and outlined the importance of engaging with employers and the HR profession.
